Total Fire Ban on Thetis Continues ~

The total fire ban on Thetis Island continues due to local conditions including lack of significant rain.

This afternoon (Thursday Sept. 11) there were two serious bush fires at the same time on the big island, just off Lake Cowichan Rd. above the highway, close to Sahtlam, threatening buildings and some livestock in a barn.  Five fire halls responded manpower and equipment as well as a Forestry helicopter and RapAttack wildfire team.  Fortunately there were several fire hydrants in the area.

We will not be as fortunate with assistance and water supplies.  Thank you for continuing to be careful and alert.
