Please Collect Stamps

This is the time of year when we all get lovely Christmas cards in the mail and to me that means a plethora of cancelled stamps available to donate toward cancer dressing supplies.   You needn’t cut out the stamps carefully – make sure there is a healthy bit of envelope still around the stamp so that they do not become damaged and leave them for me.  The News Leader was thrilled with the last delivery.

Yoga Schedule for the Holidays

This week we will have yoga on both days, Tues and Thur, and after class on Thursday (Dec. 18th) we will have tea and goodies – so if you have been wanting to reconnect with yourself or others that you have met through our time together (even if you have not come for a looonnng time), please come out, share some fun and enjoy a snack with friends.

For the following week Dec. 23 & 25, yoga is cancelled.  However, I will teach a class on the Tues, Dec.  30th for whomever desires to come out, and then no yoga January 1st.  However, we will begin again the following week.  I am thinking of making one class a more beginner class, and one more advanced and I would love some feedback about this.  As soon as I find a space in Chemainus to teach yoga I will be offering a chakra yoga series, and I would really love to do yoga for addictions.  Just some of my ideas – what would you like to do? 

Time to think about what you would like to differently in 2015.  What I know for sure, is that without your health, wealth and time mean very little.  So what are you going to do differently? 

I have put together several workshops for the month of January to discuss a variety of ways to clean the filters of your body (liver, kidneys, lungs, colon and just junk in your trunk.)  I have been studying alternative methods of restoring health in the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies for over 20 years now, and I have learned how to incorporate these into my day-to-day life, and I am excited to share some of what I have learned with people who are open to change.

I have two healing spaces now, one in Chemainus at the Lorein Centre (9738 Victoria Rd, Door #2, Chemainus, BC) and here on the island. I will be offering the workshops on the big island; however, if there is enough interest I would offer them over here also.  Email me dawn_gordon@telus.net or call 250-210-0826 to book an appt or get more information on the coming workshops.

I will be posting more information as soon as I have solidified locations to present these workshops.

A Midwinter Night’s Dream

We are so amazed and happy that all 80 tickets are taken for this event and we are full to capacity! 

Some information for all those attending:

• Doors open at 5pm; dinner will begin at 6pm

• Please think BIG when you prepare you pot-luck contribution, as there will be 80 people sharing this meal.

• Please include a card with the list of ingredients (in large printing)

• Please remember that this is a family event  and is not licensed for alcohol on premises.

• Coffee, tea, mulled apple juice and fruit punch will be provided.

• We would be delighted if you would share a piece of music, a song or two, a poem, a dance or a story to celebrate this magical time of the year – the longest night and the return of the light.

• Our theme this year is “A Midwinter Night’s Dream”, and as always we would love to see some woodsy, wintery, glittery and dreamy costumes – so dress up, or simply bring your beautiful selves!

• We will be collecting for the Harvest House Food Hamper, for anyone who would like to bring a donation.

• Also, we welcome and appreciate donations to the Solstice Planning Collective to help with our costs in organizing this event each year.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the 21st.

For months Henny Mook has been making and selling beautiful cards as a fundraiser for the library. Using those funds, I have purchased a special book, Great Bear Rain by Ian McAllister.  Thank you Henny!

Another thank you to the Thetis Island Community Fund for a generous donation to the children's section of the library.  There are ten new books ready for borrowing.  I have put them on the coffee table. More purchases to come. 

There are books and cds for sale in the library at $1 each.  They are on a table as you enter the library.  The money goes into the basket.

The Soup's On Committee thanks all the great community volunteers as well as Alanna & Chay from Capernwray; together they have made this mid-week gathering so successful.

This week the Merry TICA Fund Raisers will have a heavily laden sideboard of baked goods for sale with the proceeds going to maintain and improve Forbes Hall. And these Elves will get us all into the spirit of the season with a sing-a-long....or you can just hum-a-long....to some holiday favourite melodies !

 

Then, to round out the day, the Bridge Group will meet at 1:00 PM in the Hunter Room, still humming!

Bread Orders for Christmas

This is to let you know that I will be taking a break from Sunday, December 21st until Friday January 2nd. 

If you want to make sure you'll have delicious bread on your table for Christmas Eve and New Year's, please place your orders before Wednesday, December 17th and collect before Sunday, December 21st. The breads freeze beautifully so you'll have perfect bread when you need it over the holidays.

Charlie Brown Christmas Trees

I am clearing my apple orchard of a small number of young Douglas Firs. Instead of shredding them for mulch I will have them at the Solid Waste Recycling Centre on Saturday morning if you need a non-commercial, homegrown natural-looking cut-stem tree (various sizes from tiny to tall) for Christmas. First come, first served. A donation to Friends of Furries would be enthusiastically accepted if offered.

If anyone else is also clearing their garden of "volunteer" firs this week, bring them along on Saturday to display with mine. I will be shredding any leftovers later, but someone may want your fir tree for Christmas.

Thetis Island Elementary Field Update

Dear families and community members,

I would like to share with each of you an update regarding our school field. Two people have come forward to accept responsibility for their actions and the impact they have caused not only to our school but within the community as well. Both of the people involved are very remorseful for their actions and recognize that they need to make the situation right.  All of the information has been passed onto the school board and the Director of Operations. In the Spring, when the fields are drier, the grounds crew will come over along with the Director  tosurvey the situation and prepare a plan to restore the fields.   There is no cost to the parent group or community members for the restoration of the fields as this is school district property.

Christmas Bazaar ~ family thanks

I wanted to thank the community for coming out to the craft sale and supporting the children selling items.

I want to extend warm, sincere,  gratitude to all those who lavished my children with attention (and/or little gifts). The children experienced a truly magical weekend and are still talking about it.
