Theft of Firewood from Thetis Island Marina

On Sunday night sometime someone stole about a cord of firewood from the woodshed in the Thetis Island Marina parking lot.

We are saddened that we have now taken increased security measures and locked our woodshed. 

We would appreciate if those responsible would return the wood, as it our only heat source for the Pub and we need that cord of seasoned firewood to get through this winter.

BC Ferries Eliminates Fuel Surcharge

BC FERRIES ELIMINATES FUEL SURCHARGE BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS

VICTORIA – BC Ferries’ President and CEO Mike Corrigan announced today that the 3.4 per cent fuel surcharge will be removed as of Wednesday, December 17, 2014.

"With the current favourable market conditions, we have been hedging our diesel fuel costs and are now in a position to eliminate the fuel surcharge, which is great news for holiday travellers," said Mike Corrigan, BC Ferries’ President and CEO. "We know that fare affordability is an issue for our customers and we are pleased to be able to reduce the cost of ferry travel, as every bit helps."

BC Ferries still has an outstanding balance in its fuel deferral account, but the remainder continues to drop and forecasts indicate that the balance will be reduced to zero in the first half of 2015. 

Under contract to the Province of British Columbia, BC Ferries is the service provider responsible for the delivery of safe, efficient and dependable ferry service along coastal British Columbia.

Printed eSPOKES Reminder

The printed eSPOKES is a service provided by the Thetis Island Community Fund. It makes available a printed version of the digital eSPOKES for seniors who don’t have computers.  It is finalized each Sunday evening so that it can go to the post office drop box on Monday mornings.  Items that come in late and are out of date for the next printed eSPOKES are dropped from the next issue as they are no longer relevant.  Please make sure you have your eSPOKES items in before Saturday so that printed eSPOKES subscribers are kept in the loop.  Also, if you know of a Thetis Island senior who isn’t taking advantage of this service, please let me know and I’ll make sure they get on the list.

Post Office News

Hello Thetis Islanders,

The post office is in full swing for the busy holiday season! A lot of parcels are coming in and going out and I thought it may be helpful to share some information.

1. Please check your post boxes often, especially at this time of year.  After a recent visit from Canada Post’s area supervisor, I was directed to send mail back to the sender once a mail box gets full.   I really don’t want to do this to anyone’s mail so I encourage all of you to check your boxes frequently and to get someone to pick up your mail for you if you are going away on holidays.  Another option is the Hold Mail service the post office provides but there is a charge to that.

2. I am leaving the post office in the capable hands of Connie Schermerhorn for the last three days before Christmas. To make the transition a bit easier, I ask that you please get your parcels off before then as she will be super busy sorting the incoming mail. 

The post office will be closed at 4pm on Wednesday, December 24th and will re-open December 29. 

Happy holidays to everyone, if I don't see you this week, I will see you next year.
