Beehive ~ a creative buzz

There was a creative buzz in the air Saturday, November 26th at Forbes Hall for the Bee Hive: Sewing Bee and Clothing Swap.  It proved the perfect opportunity to socialize, get creative, learn skills, solve problems together, scoop new clothes and indulge in fresh baking, (thanks to Don & Nettie).

Some came for the entire day and others stopped by to visit, donate clothes or fabric and to check up on ‘what was happening’.  So what was happening?  Cutting out fabric for new clothes, fixing up old ones, designing Halloween costumes, getting expert advice, stitching up pillow case dresses to be shipped to Africa, even up cycling men’s silk ties into a beautiful vest.

Stay tuned for another opportunity to Bee Hive in January.

Clocks Back ~ Battery Check

We set our clocks back this weekend (Sunday, November 3) as Daylight Savings Time comes to an end for 2013.

The TIVFD reminds you that this is a great time to change out the battery on your smoke alarm (and CO monitor), replace the smoke alarm if it is more than ten years old, dust or vacuum the smoke alarm when you change out the batteries, and review your fire escape plan.

Smoke alarm units expire after ten years, and may not work properly during an emergency even though your monthly battery test sounds the alarm.  Make sure your units haven't expired.

If you need a new smoke alarm, please call the Duty Officer  250-252-0228 and we will be happy to supply you with one as a gift to keep you and your household safe.

jollity FARM

We Want Your Leaves!

The 1st annual JollityFARM maple leaf mulch collection is on. Thanks to everyone who has participated so far! The pile is growing into a mountain and we are covering more and more beds in our field each day. We have 2 willing workers (Finn Bond and Jake Howard) who will come to your house to rake + bag; or you may bring your leaves by the bag or truckload to the farm. We are offering JollityFARM bucks (may be used as trade for produce or pork) in exchange for leaf delivery to the farm and real cash to kids who participate.

...we also want your coffee grounds

We are starting out an oyster mushroom patch on the farm that should be able to provide a good supply for CSA subscribers in the near future. We can use all the coffee grounds you have to spare so please drop them off at the farm anytime or look for a 3rd marked bin at the garbage/recycling centre this weekend.

Thank you! Elisabeth, Noah and Finnigan Bond
