Shimmy Mob ~ Success!
Monday, May 12, 2014 at 4:08PM On International Belly Dance Day (May 10th, 2014) we took part in an international shimmy mob. We danced for the community and visitors of Thetis Island, raised (quite a bit of) money for the Cowichan Women Against Violence Society (Duncan, BC), and had a lot of fun dancing for our cause. Thanks to all our sponsors, volunteers, donors and everyone who gave us a smile :)

Friday Fire Fun
Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 12:14PM Friday May 9th is the Fire Extinguisher Clinic and the chance to tour the new Cowichan Valley Fire & Life Safety Education Trailer at 1:00 pm. Bring your fire extinguishers to the Firehall on Mission Road for a free check up and take part in the live fire lesson on using an extinguisher. New fire extinguishers will be available to purchase and you can order a reflective regulation-size Lot Number sign from Aggressive Fire Safety. There will be a couple of nifty door prizes and Sidney Rukus from Chemainus Girl Guides will be selling Girl Guide Cookies. Due to tides and the size of the trailer, we have it on Thetis for only one day. See you at the Firehall on Friday!

Post Office News
Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 12:10PM Just a few reminders surrounding changes at the post office.
The postal rates went up March 31. Regular letter stamps are on a two tier system.
Here are the current prices for quick reference - all before tax:
Domestic stamps: $1.00 each when you buy them in singles, or
$0.85 each when you buy them in booklets of 10
Letters weighing 30-50 grams and US stamps are $1.20
oversized letters under 100 grams are $1.80
International stamps are $2.50 each
Also to prevent more waste coming to Thetis island please contact me at the Post Office if you don't wish to recieve any flyers (Unaddressed Admail). A lot of people are leaving flyers on the table by the Postal boxes. Please take them home with you as the wind tends to blow them around. There used to be a plastic bag for the flyers but too many times people were dropping their garbage (ie: Apple cores, popsicle stcks, tin cans...etc) into the bag.
Thanks all!
Kevin, your friendly neighbourhood postmaster
