Bike to Work Week

According to coordinator Jan Slakov, seven Thetis residents took part in Bike to Work Week last week, likely the best participant-to-population rate in all the Gulf Islands. There were 38 teams and 106 participants in total, with a total estimated saving in greenhouse gas emissions of more than 1 ton.

Voice Lessons with Zandra Burns

Hello Thetians, 

I will be offering beginner voice lessons age 8/9 - 90 come fall on Thetis for a very reasonable fee and would like to know if there is any interest.

How we learn to sing is a very individual experience.  I offer technique that will aid the singer in making his or her sound effortless and optimize their own unique tone while enhancing musical ability and skills. 

For school age children I have found that the process increases confidence and cognitive ability. 

For adults who wish to improve, there are sometimes little tips and tricks that can make your singing journey much more rewarding. It is also never to late to develop good technique so you can sing all your favorite songs. 

I began studying classical voice at 11 and continued for ten years at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts. When I began working professionally as a musician I taught at Tauber music school while gigging and thoroughly enjoyed the process of nurturing a students ability.

A Sorry State ~ June 15 ~ 7PM ~ Forbes Hall

Hello all,

My wife Angela, our two boys Tomio and Sam, and I recently moved from Whitehorse, Yukon, and are living on Thetis until September.  We're loving your island, thanks in no small part to our great hosts and neighbours on Jollity Farm.

I recently made a documentary, and I'd like to share it with the community.  It's my exploration of the three government apologies my parents and stepparents have received, and the nature of apology, responsibility, and reconciliation.  There's more info in the attachment and in the link below.

Wanted to borrow for the day : Child seat for 2 year old-  on June 16

I have company coming from Europe and they have a 2 year old daughter. I am picking them up in Nanaimo and need a child seat which fits their child - she weighs 12 kg. If you have such a seat and would let me borrow it, please give me a call or email me.

Drown Caterpillars ~ don't burn

For those of you battling the tent caterpillar problem by cutting and then burning the branch ends with the tents, please be assured that by plunging the branch into a bucket of water you will still attain the desired effect.  Let them soak in the bucket...they will drown.  Don't let the branch touch the sides of the bucket unless submersed, or a few survivalists will crawl out.  This method is effective and doesn't contravene the burn-ban.  After a few days, empty the bucket in the bush.
