Annual Forbes Hall Clean-Up ~

June 8th 9AM - 3PM

We need volunteers to come out on Saturday June 8th to help with the yearly clean-up of Forbes Hall. No experience necessary we will provide on site training! Learn a new trade, you never know when it will come in handy! All you have to do is show up and we will hand you a to do list. It's that easy!

Jobs Available Are As Follows:

Garden Clean-up- We need a few people to help with this job, so if you like gardening bring assorted tools to help.

Outside of the Hall- We need someone to touch-up some paint as well as clean the gutters and a few other assorted jobs.

Inside of the Hall- this will be the main focus this year as our hall needs a lot of TLC. We will be washing windows, walls, floors as well as capturing those elusive dust bunnies.

All persons with items in the back storage room will have to remove and organize your materials. This storage area will also need a good cleaning so come prepared to roll up your sleeves.

And if we have time we would like to see the tennis court cleaned up so if you use the tennis court and would like to help that would be wonderful.

For those hard workers lunch will be prepared and served by Don and Nettie. Coffee and tea and baked goodies will also be served.

Bring gloves, knee pads, drinking water, elbow grease and a good sense of humour!!!

For more information contact Gloria @ 250-246-3091 or quackf@telus.net

Thanks. See you there.

Big Brothers / Sisters Fundraising Opportunity

Dear Thetis Island friends,

(I am one of Dennis and Eleanor Culver’s daughters.)

On Sunday, June 23rd, I will be part of a 10-member team participating in a relay: “The Run – 100K for 100 Years” in order to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters. The run will take place at Thetis Lake Park over a 5K course, starting at 7:00 am and finishing 12 to 14 hours later.

My goal is to raise $5,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can help by going to this site (DONATE HERE) and making a tax-deductible donation.  Whatever you give will help make June 23rd a special day for BBBS of Victoria and will be an investment in the life of a child, and in our future.

Thank you in advance for your support. It means a lot to me!

Sincerely,

Diana Alfred

Overflow Accommodation for Overbury Weddings ~

Accommodation is required for two weddings that Overbury Resort is hosting in July.

The couples have booked all B&Bs that are listed so I am inquiring to see if there are any other possible options.

On July 6th accommodation is needed for one couple.

For the July 13th wedding,  accommodation is needed for:

  • one couple and their mother for 2 nights
  • one couple for 1 night
  • one couple and their baby for 1 night

If you have any space to accommodate these guests we would very much appreciate your assistance.

This is the first time in many, many years that we do not have sufficient accommodation.

We hired a water taxi in years past but the cost has increased so significantly that it is no longer a reasonable choice.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Bike to Work Week

Next week is Bike to Work Week throughout BC and we can enter a team (or teams) from Thetis.

The good news is you don't have to bike or work to take part. But, at the least, you have to walk where you might otherwise drive. For example, bridge club members or people who attend community church could walk to their respective gatherings. My friend Jan Slakov, a dedicated year-round cyclist, is helping coordinate this special week on the Gulf Islands. Here's how to register. Go to the www.biketowork.ca website. Click on the “Browse my community” button at the top of the page and then on “Salt Spring and other Gulf Islands”. Then follow the simple directions for registering. If you have any problems, please get in touch with Jan at 1-250 537-5251 – janslakov@shaw.ca .Then, from May 27 – June 2, keep track of about how many km you walk or cycle and log it in on the website (or send your data in to Jan).

Thanks

Dave Steen
