Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 12:02PM We are looking for a pianist willing to play 3 or 4 Scottish songs while others sing along at the Robbie Burns supper event on Saturday, January 17th at Forbes Hall. We're not needing a virtuoso performance......just someone to accompany enthusiastic singers.
If you can fill the bill, please call Donna Stadt at 250-246-3141 or email donnastadt@gmail.com and we will be very grateful.

Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:54AM Now is the time to renew or take out membership in the Thetis Island Community Association and/or the Thetis Island Resident Ratepayers Association. Many of you will have received forms along with handy pre-addressed return envelopes. If you are new to our Island or did not receive a mailing, contact me, print one at www.thetisisland.net or pick one up in the Hunter Room/Library at our Community Centre\Forbes Hall.
TICA maintains and makes improvement to the Community Centre (Forbes Hall, the Hunter Room, Library, Community Kitchen, the multi-purpose tennis court/play area/event venue, the site gardens and grounds). Additionally, WiFi Internet access is available to all.
This well used busy place hosts activities ranging from pre-school, exercise groups, church services, luncheons, dinners, bridge, a variety of meetings and many other social functions.
Membership dues do not cover our minimum expenses to keep the doors open and maintain the grounds. The shortfall and improvements to the hall are supplemented by volunteer fundraising and donations. Please consider donating beyond the fee request amount. Any such donations over $25 will be acknowledged with an income tax charitable deduction receipt.
TIRRA is involved in ongoing public issues such as highways, ferries, community planning, administration of St. Margaret's Cemetery and the oversight of the solid waste system which is supported significantly by dedicated volunteers.
The two Associations join together to collect annual membership fees. Your support is appreciated.

Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 8:00PM Restoring Wetlands and Streams to Clean Water and Control Flooding
Wednesday, January 7th, 7pm at the Cowichan Estuary Nature Centre
Tom Biebighauser will present on how wetlands and streams are being built across North America to clean stormwater and to reduce flooding. The talk starts with simple rain-gardens and ends with advanced wetland and stream restoration projects. The presentation contains many examples from BC.
Tom Biebighauser has restored over 1,700 wetlands across British Columbia, Ontario, and in 21-States. He has studied drainage for 32-years, learning from contractors who spent their lives destroying wetlands. Tom teaches practical, hands-on workshops across North America where participants learn about wetland restoration by becoming involved in the design and construction of naturally appearing and functioning wetlands. He has written 3-books about wetland restoration, and instructs online and field college courses on how to restore wetlands.
Visit www.wetlandrestorationandtraining.com for information about the techniques he is using, and the training opportunities that are available.
