Babysitters ~ June 2014

Hi Everyone!

I know this is very far in advance, but it's worth a shot!

My fiancé and I are getting married on June 29th, 2014 at Overbury Farm Resort. There will be approximately 9 children under 8 years old attending the wedding, and we are looking for at least 3 baby-sitters for the evening of the 29th (possibly for the evening of the 28th as well).

Most likely you will just be tasked with being in the cabin while they sleep before the parent's come to bed. If you or someone you know might be interested, please contact me at beauvilain.ryan.wedding@gmail.com with your rates and experience (references as well)

Thank you so much!

Calling Local Artisans, Bakers, Craftspeople, Winemakers, & Beekeepers

Hello all!

My fiancé and I are getting married at the lovely Overbury Farm Resort on June 29th, 2014. We are trying to plan the wedding from a far (currently living in Argentina) and need some help from locals! We would love to offer our guests gifts from the island. Whether it be candles, honey, native art, local wine...we're open to your suggestions! We would also love to secure some homemade baked goods (scones/muffins) packaged in a way we could hand them out to our guests on the morning after the wedding before they head to the ferry. If you or anyone you know are interested in doing business with us, please get in contact!

The Beehive ~ January 11th

Reminder of the Beehive, Sewing Bee & Clothing Swap

Location: Forbes Hall on Saturday, January 11th from 10 - 4

The BeeHive is a day long upcycling clothing event.  Bring ideas for a new creation, or, tart up old wardrobe favourites.

If you like, bring clothing or fabric that someone else could use.

This is a good opportunity to share ideas, learn a new sewing skill, pass along unwanted clothing and have fun upcycling something new for your winter or spring wardrobe.

Stay for an hour, stay for the day, come to chat, relax and hang out.

There will be fresh baking & coffee provided by Don & Nettie.

Bring your sewing machine, and if possible an iron and ironing board as well as an extension cord.

Its ok to hand sew as well!

Everyone is welcome, there is no cost.

St. Margaret's Cemetery - Blackberry Clean-up Day

Many thanks go out to the team that spent a day at the cemetery digging up blackberry roots. In keeping with our plan to go about developing the new area as green as possible, a team of strong young men were hired to do this rather arduous job. Many thanks to Kyle and Liam Strachan and Jacob Frankel for a good days labour. And of course a great big thanks to Vicki Walker and her daughter Sage who voluntarily gave up their morning to help. Simone Luckham and Gurk Sarioglu were in on the job as well. We know this will take more than one kick at the can but feel confident that in the more sensitive areas we have made a good start at eliminating these blackberries.

Thanks again to all.

Suzanne Sarioglu

Resolution Solved!

Happy New Year Everyone!

We now have (only) a baker's dozen signed up to attend one of the three life-saving 30 minute workshops on how to operate the new AED coming to the community centre.

We know you have made a New Years Resolution to do more positive things in 2014, so why not cross that off the list early by joining a seminar at 10 am on Saturday Jan 4th, or at 2 pm or 7 pm on next Monday, Jan 6th?

Just send your email to chief11@telus.net saying which seminar you are attending.

It's at the firehall.

It's free.

It's important.

It's only 30 minutes.

It could save a life on Thetis.

A Solstice Thank You!

Many thanks to all who gathered together for the 2013 Thetis Island Community Winter Solstice Celebration at Forbes Hall on December 21 honouring the longest night and the return of the light.

Under the twinkling lights and glowing stars we shared amazing food and delightful entertainment! Special thanks to the fantastic culinary experts, and very talented bards, troubadours and storytellers.

We also thank you for your generous donations to the Solstice Fund and to the Harvest House Food Drive.

Together we create this very special and magical community celebration and celebration of community.

From Janice, Carol, Dawn, Steph & Alisha, we wish you one and all a Happy New Year and a 2014 full of wonder and joy!

Thanks to Kelly Bannister for this great group photo.

Public Access Defibrillator Training

New Forbes Hall Defibrillator Training

Your TICA Board will be installing the new Public Access Defibrillator at Forbes Hall sometime in January.

The TIVFD invites you to take a 30-minute familiarization workshop with us.  While learning how to operate the AED may not change your life, it might change your neighbour's life.

We will hold a "hands-on" seminar at the Firehall on Saturday, Jan 4 at 10AM, on Monday, Jan. 6 at 2PM and 7 PM.

Please e-mail chief11@telus.net to let us know which workshop you will be attending.

This seminar will be of special interest to the "kitchen crew" who attend many community centre functions, and those who use Forbes Hall for recreation and/or social events.

An Expression of Thanks

Thanks, endless deep thanks for all the love and support you have showered upon our  family during this challenging time. We always knew we lived in a great community but now have deeply experienced it and feel such overwhelming gratitude.

And so, as I have learned to say from First Nations sisters and brothers, I raise my hands to you, wonderful people, I raise my hands to you all and honour you for your support and generosity. I'd like to share with you all my favorite gratitude song by Natalie Merchant, and dedicate it to you.

We hope you have a fantastic holiday celebrating life on this beautiful island, on this beautiful Earth.  Happy, happy Winter...hope to see you very soon.

Love and Blessings, Steph, Chad, and Aislinn
