Seeking Donations for the new Playground

Great news - Thetis Elementary School will be getting a new playground this year!

The school was fortunate to be awarded a government grant for $50,000 to support the purchase and installation of a new playground to replace the condemned facilities. While this sounds like a huge amount of money, the cost of approved playground equipment, shipping and installation is rather exorbitant.

The Thetis Island Parents Association is asking the community to consider a one-time donation of any amount to help offset costs of the new playground, which is designed to serve all children in or visiting our community. Our ambitious goal is to raise up to $4,000 from the community in one month, which the parents will match. Please consider helping us in this once-in-a lifetime opportunity to create a unique gathering place for families that will be used for decades to come.

Donations can be made by cash or cheque to the Thetis Island Parents Association, Box 14-7. For information please contact TIPA Treasurer Ron Bannister. Thank you!

Help make roads safe for our kids...

If you are a BC Automobile Association member, you can pick up a road safety sign free from any BCAA location.  The TIVFD will place them at appropriate spots on our roads if you drop yours off at the fire hall on Mission Road.  Thanks!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Extract from the BCAA website above:
More than 2,400 child pedestrians are seriously injured and approximately 30 are killed each year in Canada. Most of these injuries occur in September and October.
This back-to-school season, BCAA is offering "Slow Down, Kids Playing" signs, which can be displayed on residential properties. The signs are a reminder to drivers to pay close attention to their surroundings when driving through areas where kids are likely to be present.
Now available at all BCAA Service Centre locations across the province, the "Slow Down, Kids Playing" signs are free of charge for BCAA Members and only $5 for other B.C. residents.
Tips for drivers:
--Slow down and watch out for kids...
--Expect the unexpected...
--Let kids out on the side of the car closest to the sidewalk...
--Follow the rules of the road...
--Do not pass school buses when their red lights are flashing...
--Use extra caution in adverse weather conditions...
2012 Annual VIHA Flu Shot Clinic
The Annual VIHA Flu Shot Clinic on Thetis Island at Forbes Hall will be held on NOVEMBER 1st from 10:45AM thru 'til 12:45PM.
There will be a slight departure from our past rushed, 45 minute window for inoculations due to ferry schedules. This year the Flu Shot Clinic will run from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45, giving residents a choice of when to arrive to roll up your sleeve.  As usual, the TIVFD First Responders will be on hand and the TIVFD Auxiliary will be offering refreshments after your inoculation.  Please mark your calendar.  We will be reminding you again closer to the date, but early planning means you wont miss out.
