Island Trust Letter regarding BC Ferries Funding

Click here to view a letter from Islands Trust Council Chair Sheila Malcolmson to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government regarding BC Ferries funding.  Sheila makes the case that the 2003 Coastal Ferry Act has failed to deliver on its intention and promises.  Additionally, the chronic lack of government funding has resulted in fares that are past the tipping point of affordability and are having serious negative impacts on coastal communities.  A good read and background information for the next set of coastal ferries consultation.

Assistance needed for Remembrance Day gathering ~

I need assistance with organizing a short Remembrance Day gathering for Monday, November 11th, at Forbes Hall at 10:45 am.  Les Saul is unable this year to take on this tradition that he started several years ago, and I have assured him that we will carry on without him. 

The gathering is a chance to come together to remember and honour the contribution relatives, friends, and our respected veterans made to their nation's peace and safety, regardless of which nation, war, peacetime deployment etc. they served in.

Boat Launch Closure ~ October 19th

The launch ramp at Telegraph Harbour will be closed Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 7 a.m. until Monday, October 21 at 9 a.m. due to resurfacing. Sorry for any inconvenience.

The Beehive: Clothing Swap & Sewing Bee

Reminder of Fall clothing swap and sewing bee (The Beehive) 

Location: Forbes Hall on Saturday, October 26th, from 10 – 4 pm

If you would like you may drop off clothes and fabric donations on Friday, October 25th – 3 – 5

The BeeHive is a day long event though feel free to stop by for as little or as long as you like, this is most importantly of all, a social event.  Come to chat, relax and hang out. 

There will be fresh baking & coffee provided by Don & Nettie.

Bring ideas for a new creation, maybe new pillows for the sofa or tart up old wardrobe favourites with fresh patches or a new hemline. 

This is a good opportunity to share ideas, learn a new sewing skill, from sewing experts, and have fun upcycling your fall wardrobe. 

This event is BYOSM (bring your own sewing machine)

FAC Update ~ September Traffic Numbers etc.

Most routes and route groups are down compared to September of last year.  However Route 20, CTP was up for the month in vehicle traffic and almost break even for passenger traffic. Vehicles were up 6.98% for the month bringing the YTD number to -1.58%.  Passenger traffic was off .34% bringing the YTD number to -1.95%.  Please see an excellent review for the whole system below by Brian Hollingshead.
