Free Ham Radio Course

How can I communicate during an emergency when phones, cell phones and the internet are down?  Use a ham radio!

Amateur radio operators are much more than hobbyists; they provide extremely important communications, especially during and after emergencies. As a licensed operator you can be in touch with others who will be able to pass on important messages - not just during emergencies. Ask Claire and Matt Hess how ham radio is an important part of their lives after they got certified last year. Or talk to some of the other newly certified hams (Mary Forbes, Veronica Shelford, Petra Accipiter, Gerhard Wanney, Tegan Luckham) and find out why you might want to take this FREE course. The course is presented in such a format you are able to pass the test on day 2 with flying colours.  Several people have already registered, so if you want to car pool, call Simone Luckham 250-246-4802 or email her simone@stonesculptor.ca

Yoga starts this week ~

Happy New Year – What are your new year’s goals?  Affirmations, hopes, dreams, desires, they all come true if you are just brave enough to take the first step out the door of your comfort zone J.

Yoga starts this week, Tuesdays will be beginner/intermediate – ongoing yoga from 9:30 – 11:00 am, Wednesdays is a very gentle chair yoga, great for all ages and all limitations – this is a great beginner course to learn to breath more fully, stretch gently, helps to return strength and vitality to the tissue of the body and to restore peace to the spirit.  Thursday 9:30 – 11:00 am, we will return to the basics.  We will review breath work, the core of yoga, the bandhas, the basic core positions with adaptations for “Boomers” new to yoga or with injuries that they continue to work through, gently easing open stuck areas.

If you are thinking of trying yoga for the first time, here are a couple of things you should be aware of:

Come 10-15 minutes early and complete a ParQ form, and get comfortable so that we can begin at 9:30 sharp.

Please don’t eat anything heavy for 2-3 hours before yoga, and only a light snack about an hour before or the stretches can cause you to feel pain or nausea.

Dress in layers that allow freedom of movement

There are some extra mats

Please call me and discuss anything.  I am available by phone in the morning between 8-9 am and at night between 7-8 pm.

I look forward to seeing you in 2013,

Warmly, Dawn Gordon 250-246-9212 or dawn_gordon@telus.net
