Aikido for Adults?

Curious about Aikido? Now's the time to find out more!

Grant Babin Sensei (instructor) is now offering adult classes on Mondays 6-7:30 pm, Thursdays 5-6:30 pm and Saturdays 8:30-9:30 am. Anyone interested should contact Grant for more info (islandsedge@yahoo.com) and show up with loose fitting clothing for an introduction to Aikido, known as "the martial art of peace."

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that focuses on using opponents own energy to gain control of them or throw them away from you. It is not a static art, but places emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement. Practitioners can find any number of benefits in Aikido, such as self-defense techniques, physical health, moral and spiritual development, or peace of mind and body. The founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, placed great weight on striving for internal and external harmony and peace, which is the most basic tenet of the art. "The Way of Harmony of the Spirit" is one way that "Aikido" may be translated into English. That said, it is also a great work out!

Aikido can be practiced by any person of any age or fitness level. Everyone who is curious is welcome to come and participate or even just watch. A deeper appreciation of mind and body connection is guaranteed!

Supper’s On ~ Saturday November 3rd ~ Wow!

There were 50 very happy people who enjoyed a meal of comfort food. Don Sinclair and Nettie Hayter with help from Donna Stadt put together Shepherds Pie both regular and an amazing Vegetarian option. This was served with a lemon, fennel & carrot salad and a Buttermilk Biscuit to top it off. For dessert people enjoyed fabulous apple pie baked by Gloria with whipped cream or cheddar cheese. Once again we were able to enjoy Pot of Gold Coffee thanks to Nan Beals.

The hall was very quiet during the meal as people were enjoying the feast.  We are so glad the community is enjoying the new Supper’s On events.  As well, we were able to raise $150 for TICA from the evening.

Big thanks to Don, Nettie, Donna & Gloria for this!
