Tampering with Fire Dept. Equipment

The TIVFD relies upon our Fire Department equipment to be ready for emergencies at all times. We inspect and maintain our off-site equipment regularly. Our water supply pumps are set up specifically a certain way and we use only specialized fuel (non-ethanol) to run them. Never use our pumps or other equipment without express permission.

How to Protect your Home Before — and During — Wildfire Season

There has been a number of wildfire updates online and in the news. This CBC article has valuable tips on protecting your home during wildfire season.

To increase the wildfire resilience of your property, start by cleaning your gutters and roof, removing debris, (branches, dry, leaves, needles, etc.) from around your home, and move combustibles (propane tanks, firewood, scrap lumber, etc.) at least 10m away from your home. Clean out debris from under any decks, and move outdoor furniture (including doormats) away from decks and patios if you are away for a period of time. While these tasks may seem simple, they significantly reduce your wildfire risk. Do your part this wildfire season so we can do ours.

Lost Crab Trap

Somewhere between Cedar Beach driveway, Clam Bay Road and 83 Blue Heron Road, a green crab trap (about 4 ft by 3 ft by 4 ft) was lost on the roadway at approximately 1230 hrs on Monday July 22. It is part of a monitoring project and is useless as a Dungeness crab trap.

The People’s Apothecary Garden - Plant of the Week #17 - Borage

Other than bee-ing a pollinator favourite, borage imparts a fresh cucumber scent that is a great addition to summer drinks. It is known as a natural calming agent and was considered the ‘herb of courage’ for knights preparing for battle. Today it is commercially cultivated for its medicinal seed oil. Although delicate, it flowers bloom from May through to October.
