Traveling from Sidney or Victoria to Thetis on the 30th?

Hello community,

We’ve got a good friend traveling to Thetis on Tuesday the 30th, and she’s hoping to find a lift from the Sidney area (or Victoria) to the Thetis ferry terminal.

Traveling with a bag and small carry-on suitcase. She’ll chip in for gas and is great company!

Please let us know if you can help, and many thanks!

Parade Picture Contest

Kids, you have a terrific chance of having your poster win the contest…the fire department hasn’t received one entry yet.  That means if you get your drawing of you riding in a fire truck on an letter sized paper, and you write your name and your parents’ contact information on the back, and you get it into the poster box in front of the firehall before 6 p.m. Wednesday, you will have a much better chance of getting to ride in the Fire Engine at the front of the parade next Saturday.  You have to be 12 years old or younger to enter.  Younger than 6 years old?  No problem…a parent or older sibling can ride with you if you win.]

Contest ends Wednesday 6 pm.

Goosey Gander Sho

The Goosey Gander Shop will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm both days.
Thanks to all the wonderful items brought in by Thetis Islanders and all you happy shoppers, the Shop has now re-homed 1681 items since opening last summer!

This week more new treasures from Thetis and around the world have arrived, including an excellent quality case of antique drafting tools, a butter churn and an upright vacuum.

From afar there is an ocarina from Chile, an opium bottle from China, a worry stone from Zimbabwe, a black lace fan from Spain, and three exquisitely detailed tiny miniature scenes from El Salvador. There’s also more earrings, fun dishes and casseroles and a vintage Trivial Pursuit game. Come have a look!

Thank you,
Nan Beals

Community Emergency Alert System

By subscribing to receive emergency alerts, users will get more immediate information to protect themselves and their family. Cowichan Alert is used to alert people in an affected area (anywhere is the Cowichan region, including Thetis Island) of the following types of incidents when they occur or likely to occur imminently:

  • Wildfires (particularly for evacuation alerts and orders)
  • Flooding
  • Hazardous Material release
  • Landslide / post-earthquake hazards
  • Severe weather events (Environment Canada Alerts come through the system, these are usually advisories)
  • Significant road closures/disruptions (Drive BC Alerts come through the system, these are just advisories not life threatening)
  • Boil Water Alerts

Sea Star Count - Thank you!

A big thanks to everyone who came out to the sea star count at Clam Bay this past weekend! T

he four teams of counters made short work of the task and contributed to community science and our understanding of sea star wasting along the BC coastline! We counted over 1600 sea stars with only around 30 that were wasting.

Also, thanks once again to the Lambs for being excellent hosts. The company was grand and the cakes delicious!
