Forbes Hall will be open Tuesday 10-4. Drop in to get some books, cool down, visit with friends or just chill out.

Thanks to volunteers Lesley and Sharon for being there so we can open today, and thanks to Georgina for being there Monday on short notice!

Gov. Heat Warning for Thetis Island

This is a heat warning. Elevated temperatures are expected and there is a moderate risk to public health. Where: Greater Victoria, Southern Gulf Islands, East Vancouver Island and Inland Vancouver Island.

When: Now through Tuesday night. Remarks: A strong ridge of high pressure over the region has ushered in very high temperatures. Daytime highs will be in the low 30's away from the water with overnight lows near 16 degrees. Daytime high temperatures are expected to moderate starting Wednesday, but warm weather will persist.

### Watch for the effects of heat illness: heavy sweating, rash, cramps, fainting, high body temperature and the worsening of some health conditions.

Purple Air Monitor and HEPA Filter at Forbes Hall Community Centre

Forbes Hall has a Purple Air Monitor on site, which provides air quality information.

For when the air quality is poor, Forbes Hall has a HEPA filter in the library providing a reprieve.

The People’s Apothecary Garden - Plant of the Week #15 - Evening Primrose

A tall and elegant plant, evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) is currently in full bloom at the PAG! After planting it in 2020, and waiting for it to sprout in 2021 to no avail, we thought it would not take…. 2022 came and BAM, it arrived in full force. Gorgeous as it is, it is a space (/light) hog and even bullies the mints, which is a feat. If controlled, evening primrose is a great addition to the garden - it’s beautiful, is a great pollinator plant, is edible, and has various medicinal properties!
