Warning, my recent request for firewood had someone reach out and offer wood delivered and wanted the money up front. It was a Colorado number. He was very persistent, con and persuasive over text. He asked to have money wired to this email. I am confident it was a scam.

Tickets will be sold today Wednesday at soups on for the beautiful, knitted lap throws. They would be great for those cold chilly days on the ferry. All proceeds to go to the Community Hall.
The raffle tickets will be drawn at the Christmas Market on the 2nd of December mark it on your calendars.
Many thanks from the Friday knitting and Craft group
Marjan and I are putting the TICA library online! This will take some time of course. If you have materials to return, please leave them on the checkout counter so I can put them in the system.
If you would like to access it from home, some fiction has been entered, go to
LibraryThing.com/catalog/TICA library. If it does not work, let me know.
The library has a public computer connected to a printer.
Maybe see you at Soup’s On.

On Thursday, November 9th, Island Health will be holding an Influenza and COVID-19 immunization clinic at Forbes Hall Community Centre.
COVID vaccine will be for the new strain XBB.1.5
All BC residents 6 months and older can get a free flu and/or COVID-19 vaccine.
Everyone, including children, must be registered. If you’ve ever had a COVID-19 vaccine, you are already registered. If not, register at www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca
Invitations to book are being sent out to citizens registered in the get vaccinated system. Once they receive their invitation to book, they can follow the link or call the Provincial call centre at 1-833-838-2323
Choose Thetis Island – Forbes Hall to attend the Thetis Island Clinic.
Only one appointment per person needs to be made. If the person is eligible to receive both vaccines, they will be able to get both vaccines. Some people may not be eligible for COVID-19 vaccine depending on when their last immunization was. Also, only one invitation per person will be sent, whether they get one or two immunizations.
This posting includes answers to many questions we have received about the clinic, registering, and the actual vaccine. If you have other specific questions regarding your own vaccine or appointment, please call 1-833-838-2323.
More information regarding the clinic will be sent out as received.

Finally, concrete news on the PO boxes. We are fairly high up the queue to get the back loading boxes we need. I am asking for three hundred. We have to wait until an office or other retail post office upgrades or closes. This enables us to acquire their boxes. When I get further word, we can then discuss the installation process. I have put in the word that I will take the green PO boxes off their hands when this goes ahead. Those of you that asked this is not going to happen soon, but I am hopeful for something this spring.
Post office hours:
Monday to SATURDAY; 1000 to 05:00 PM; CLOSED 12 noon to 12:30 PM
Due to the interim ferry schedule our driver is getting here at around 4:00 PM. That means most of the parcel sorting does not get done until the following morning. In the past we were able to have everything sorted by 1000 the next morning. Aim for after 11:00 if you want to be sure that all of the parcels are sorted. Things will go back to normal when the Kuiper comes back into service (if they go back to the old schedule).
Please bring your tags for parcels. We can all use the exercise going up and down the stairs. Sometimes the customer search just does not catch the parcel. Coming in and saying that you have a parcel with no tag and no tracking number is not helpful and more and more of you are starting to do this. When it is just Liz and I we can take the time. When there are three or four people waiting, no.
Enjoy the Pumpkins!
Fred
Thanks go to the 66 islanders who signed the national petition to raise the volunteer fire fighter tax credit from $3,000 to $10,000. This would allow tax relief of about $450 to fire fighters giving more than 200 hours to their communities.
If you signed the petition that was circulated at Soup’s On, did you know that you can also sign the electronic petition and you get counted twice? And those who didn’t sign the paper copy, you could sign the online electronic form. Here is the link:
https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Sign/e-4594
Thank you all for your continuing support of our local volunteer fire fighters and all of the small volunteer departments across the country.

We had a problem with our bed which our vacuum had touched the wiring, we figured it out the next morning. After contacting Wayfair they had already sent us a whole replacement bed instead of just the motor like we had discussed. It is waiting for me to pick it up in Nanaimo in the next few days, I will be sending it back unless someone on Thetis has an interest in it. The price from Wayfair is $600 which is half of what Sleep Country is selling it for.
Elevating my feet when lying on my back has helped with swollen feet & the slight elevation has helped with back pain until I get up at least. Anyone with mobility issues knows the difficulty getting out of bed & this has made everything so much easier. I'm waiting for another pickup in Nanaimo soon so if anyone is interested, please let me know before I need to go there.
The firm mattress from Sleep Country like mine are $400 & up which isn't included.
