Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 7:03AM We, at Telegraph Harbour Marina, are compiling a list of Caterers and Chefs interested in working with us to offer our guests, both from away and local islanders, quality food services for our events, big and small.
We would prefer to prioritize our own Thetis Island talent before using outlying companies. If you would like to be involved in expanding our services, we want to hear from you.
Contact Alisha Rennie at coordinator@telegraphharbour.ca for more details.

Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 6:59AM We noticed more than a dozen of tent caterpillars on our plum and apple trees. So, I would suggest that those who have similar trees be aware of them.
Thanks
Gurk
At this time of year overwintered caterpillars hatch and begin to form web nests. Large infestations are unsightly (ugh) and can quickly defoliate a tree. The tree will likely survive but fruiting will be diminished. Many insect infestations are cyclic, and some years are worse. The nests are best addressed early or late in the day when the worms are less active. Scrape or cut them out and submerge in a bucket of dish soap and water. You can also spray the beasties with vegetable oil. They breathe through their skin, so this suffocates them. Torching is a fire hazard, folks. Pesticides, even botanicals should be a last resort, as our pollinators are at risk. Plenty of information on the net.
