We would be looking for the following:

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing everyone on island.

Thank you.

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) Talk

May 8th, 7:00-8:00 Forbes Hall

Adam Sandell is a GP and medical advisor to the BC Ministry of Health on MAID, and he provides teaching and training on MAID. He’ll be giving a talk and answer questions on MAID eligibility, law and practicalities.

Canada’s medical assistance in dying (MAID) law seeks to respect personal autonomy for those seeking access to MAID, while at the same time protecting vulnerable people and the equality rights of all Canadians.

Volunteers Needed to help with Gardening at Forbes Hall Community Centre

TICA is looking for a group of volunteers to help with the gardens at the hall.

Usual tasks through the year:
· Trimming the decorative grasses in spring before the new growth.
· Cutting back the previous year’s growth on the perennial plants.
· Weeding the various garden areas, including the herb gardens at the back of the hall.
· Hand-watering as required. There is an irrigation system for most gardens.
· In the fall, some plants may need to be moved, divided or replaced.
· TICA is also looking for a volunteer or volunteers to mow the grassy areas of the Hall
grounds. This volunteer would need to have their own lawn mower or trimmer.

TICA hopes that there would be enough volunteers to share the work that needs to be done.
Working in pairs is always an enjoyable exercise.

The gardens are low-maintenance, but this doesn’t mean no-maintenance.

Looking forward to hearing from some happy gardeners to keep the Forbes Hall looking
wonderful!

If you have a few hours per month and you enjoy gardening, please contact Don Sinclair @ sinry@telus.net

Thanks!

Thank you to the Mount Burchell hiker who found my friend's dropped, grey toque and placed it on the entry gate post.

That was thoughtful.

The Fire Permit Process

Thank you all whom are successfully using the on-line Fire Permit process atwww.thetisislandfire.ca.  Some people, however, are having difficulties with or misunderstanding the on-line form. You MUST agree to having read and understood the restrictions, and by doing so you are taking responsibility for your safe burns. If you do not answer the question, then that will delay the process of receiving the fire permit.

You need to describe the type of fire you wish to ignite…campfire or yard waste. If you do not state which (or both) types of fire, then that will delay the permit process.

And lastly, our volunteer Auxiliary Communications & Engagement Officer (Veronica Shelford) has many other obligations and responsibilities as well as life’s daily activities besides processing fire permits, so PLEASE request a permit a few days ahead of your need if possible. Don’t expect a permit to be processed on the morning of your request, although Veronica diligently tries to do so.

Thank you.
