Visibility of Pedestrians

Is it is going to take a horrific pedestrian accident before people on Thetis roads start wearing reflective gear?

I passed 9 pedestrians at different spots going from the mailboxes to Porlier Rd at about 4:45 this evening. ONE was wearing reflective gear. The rest had dark clothing & you don’t see them until you are almost on them. One didn’t even step off the pavement & by the time I saw them & swerved I must have passed within 2 feet of him/her. ( I drive at slow speeds because of the pedestrian/deer hazards)

If these people don’t seem to mind the risks of being invisible, it is really, really going to mess up my day ( & others) if I hit one!!

Jamie
P.S
A thin strip of high-vis piping on a jacket is better than nothing but really doesn’t cut it with these long dark days.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Soup’s On: Wednesday, Dec. 13th

Join us for a fun Soup’s On, December 13th (last one of 2023).

Wear that weird, ugly, strange Christmas sweater that you pull out once a year. Don’t have one? Use glue to stick fun Christmas items all over a sweater you no longer wear.

If you don’t have one, simply do not want to wear one, or whatever, come enjoy a bowl of soup while laughing with your neighbours at the weird things people will wear!

Complimentary Travel Departing Chemainus Saturday, December 9, 2023

The BC Ferries’ Route 20 vessel has been recently renamed the Pune’luxutth in the spirit of reconciliation.

In recognition of the name change, BC Ferries will be offering complimentary travel and cookies at the Chemainus ticket booth throughout the day on Saturday, December 9, 2023, when the vessel returns to service early afternoon.

Pune’luxutth is the Hul’qumi’num’ word for Penelakut and was the name chosen by Penelakut Tribe. The vessel has been serving the Chemainus-Thetis-Penelakut route since 2007 and over the past few months has been in its five-year dry-docking and refit. This is where it also went through the process of a name change.

No change in schedule is expected for the day. The Pune’luxutth will follow its original schedule beginning Sunday, December 10, 2023.

For the most up-to-date sailing and departure information, customers can visit bcferries.com or follow our @BCFerries X account

The Pros & Cons of Fire Extinguishers vs Fire Blankets

This is a well written article on the Fire Extinguishers versus Fire Blankets for your home fire protection plan. Many of you take advantage of our free Annual Fire Extinguisher Clinic and are trained to properly use one. But you may be asking how effective is a Fire Blanket in comparison. This link explains the differences between the two tools:
