Available Storage Container on Island?

I am needing to move some furniture out of house due to reno (doing all floors in whole house). I have a garage, but I am now thinking we may need more room.

The quote to bring over a storage container from off island is pretty high. Does anyone have another suggestion? I was kind of wondering if anyone had a moveable container on island. The main cost was for the moving of the container. (close to $1000 each way with fuel charge and GST); the rental was cheap. $150 for 4 weeks.

Thanks for any ideas,

Request for Help with Moving Batteries, & Seeking Storage Space

Hello,

I have some batteries over at my friend's house on Pilkey Point to the pub so I can put them back onto my boat.

I also might need help at the end of February to move my stuff off my friend's property into a storage unit that I’m currently working on getting lined up. But if someone has space for storage on Thetis, I would be willing to pay for storage to make it easier to access my stuff.

Please send email to jasmineeveanderson@gmail.com or text/call 250-619-1310

Thank you in advance,

Jasmine

Robbie Burns Night - A Great Success

The great support provided by the community ensured that Robbie Burns Night was a resounding success. From the preparation to the meal, to the tributes, to the varied performances, islanders came together to honor the immortal memory of the great Scottish Poet.

The dinner was traditional Scottish fare with Haggis as the featured item. Many thanks to the kitchen staff for the preparation and service. The food was delicious, and the service staff worked hard to make sure everyone received the food in a timely fashion.

Islanders new and old stepped up to provide the toasts and accolades. Robbie Burns' life came to life in the reciting of his poetry and recounting of his life story.

We were entertained by highland dancers, a piper and our own local singers. All exceeded expectations, though Alyssa White, the four-year-old highland dancer easily stole the show. Both the dancers and the piper were very impressed by Thetis and committed to returning next year.

Thanks, in particular to everyone who came out for the evening and made it a sold-out evening. We are already looking forward to next year's Robbie Burns Night.

David and Georgina, on behalf of the Robbie Burns organizing group.

Postscript to the Robbie Burns dinner

I want to thank everyone who attended and volunteered at the Burns dinner last night for their enthusiasm and support.

I also want to share with you a piece of my various introductory remarks that was accidentally left out because of some last-minute schedule changes. It’s related to the poems we’d hoped to have more time to share.

Here it is: "It's wonderful to have so many talented and creative people on our small island, potters, painters, musicians, carvers, writers, knitters, chefs, glass and wood artists, and not to forget those amazing carpenter, builders and mechanics. I recently met one of those creators, Susan Jones. Susan grew up in BC, lived in the Middle East, and has worked as a teacher, Clinical Psychology Counsellor and, especially, as a writer of novels, books for children, thrillers and a recent non-fiction work about Bonnie Prince Charlie called Personality, Politics and the Prince: A biography of Lady Winnifred Maxwell, Countess of Nithsdale, who helped the prince escape after the Jacobite defeat at Culloden. You can find this book in the Thetis library and more information about her online at www.susananitajones.com She’s here tonight to organize the impromptu recitation of some of Robbie Burns’ poems. Please give Susan a big hand!”

Thanks,

Gary Geddes
