Thanks for Keeping Forbes Hall Tended and Welcoming!

As the growing season is fully upon us, we just want to say thanks to some people who have been volunteering regularly in the maintenance and tending of the grounds and gardens at Forbes Hall. Even though they all have their own gardening to do, these islanders have stepped up to make sure the Hall looks great and is cared for, too!

Lawn Care:
Gary Cowburn, Karen Cowburn, Doug Darling, Terry Hamilton, Deborah Martin, and in an honour roll position, Paul Duncan, who has been key in the past few years in tending the lawns and is now moving off island. 

Garden Care:
Without a regular Gardening Committee in place, there are a few people who have taken charge of parts of the Hall’s gardens. 

Myrna Brownlee – the beautiful driveway entrance garden. It will be exciting to watch it fill in over the next months.

Ellen and Keith Rush – readying the garden for planting of Choisya and creating the lovely planters for the entry areas.

Deborah Martin – tends the Empress Tree bed by the parking.

Composting:
Leah Grant – for managing the compost bins, turning it all as needed. 

Thanks also to those who have been pulling weeds whenever they get the chance. A bucket with tools is at the top of the entry steps ready for when people have the time to pull a few.

Our appreciation to these islanders for caring for the gardens and grounds, making them look so welcoming!

Notice of Thetis Island Residents & Ratepayers Association (TIRRA) - Annual General Meeting

TIRRA’s AGM will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:30 pm at Forbes Hall Community Centre. All Thetis Island Residents and Ratepayers are invited to attend.

For those who have not renewed their 2026 membership or those who wish to join TIRRA, membership forms are available online at https://thetisisland.net/tirra/tirra-office.html and will be available at the meeting.

Summaries of the past year’s activities will be reviewed and include reports from the President, Treasurer and TIRRA committees; Communications, Solid Waste, Cemetery, Roads/Ferry and Trails.

The Annual reports from all of these will be published on the TIRRA website at https://thetisisland.net/tirra/tirra-reports.html during this week.

Elections by membership vote for all TIRRA Executive and Committee Chair positions will be held during the AGM.

We are looking for volunteers for the following positions: Secretary, Trails Chair and Transportation/Roads Chair. These roles provide the following support to help TIRRA operate important island functions effectively.

Secretary – Responsible for record keeping and correspondence.

Trails Chair – Is the link between the Trail Stewards, Trail maintenance and the TIRRA Board. Responsible for the Trails maintenance budget.

Transportation and Roads – Communicates any road and related safety / transportation issues on Thetis Island with the local road maintenance organization and the regional district.

These positions are voting members on the TIRRA Executive.

Ken & Genny Redman – Moving Off Island…

We are leaving Thetis Island. As we say this to one another, we cannot help but say "really?" This is a wonderful place to live, and we have loved both the people and the place. All of this will travel with us to our new home. The mountains still call to both of our hearts, and we can answer that call in the North Okanagan.

We will be selling a lot of things in the next few weeks. 

I will post some big items this week, and we will be having a yard sale on Saturday May 16th, beginning at 9:00 am. and ending at 2:00 pm. 

No early birds please. Parking is limited. 

On Monday, May 11th, we will have canning jars at the end of the driveway. Please take the whole box of jars.

St. Margaret's Cemetery Maintenance Day, Saturday, May 9th 10-3

On Saturday May 9th from 10-3, St. Margaret’s Cemetery Committee will be having its annual maintenance day. The cemetery is a vault of island history and is the permanent home for many of our forebears. From tidying up headstones, to general landscaping there will be a range of projects to suit everyone's interests and abilities. We welcome all Islanders.

Please plan to join us, we encourage everyone to participate. If possible, please bring small garden tools for general landscaping and/or scrub brushes and water pails to clean grave markers.

We would encourage you to contribute to the picnic lunch, where we will remember and celebrate the lives that came before us.
