Help Getting Back into the Workforce

Are you looking for help getting back into the workforce?

Do you know someone who needs a leg up?

Are you an employer and interested in wage subsidies and other employee supports?

On Wednesday November 29th, 10:30-11:30 at Forbes Hall, Johnna Puusa from WorkBC will be discussing the many supports that the BC Government provides to help people return to the workforce.  Assistance can come in many forms and often can be customized to an individual's requirements.

If you are looking to rejoin the workforce, or know someone who is looking, this is an important meeting to attend.

This talk is sponsored by the Forbes Hall Health Services Committee, please contact David Reay (778-899-3216) if you have any questions

Ferry Webcam Repair

Finding a new camera is turning out to be a more complicated task than first anticipated (although we will continue to search), but we have managed to reroute and repair the feed from the existing camera to thetisisland.net. If anyone is still having problems getting the image of the ferry line-up at https://www.thetisisland.net/ferry/index.html please let us know at veronicashelford@gmail.com   It should refresh every three minutes without issues now.

Many thanks to Sony Falardeau for taking me through the steps in the code to get the camera to send the pictures directly to thetisisland.net. And very many thanks to Tim French for maintaining a separate domain for many years after he ceased to need it, so that the webcam image could keep coming through. Not to mention his having found us the camera and set it up in the first place! It's been a boon and a blessing to the island for many years now. Thank you again Tim!

Soup’s On: Did You Know?

Since the start-up of Soup’s On in the fall of 2008, we have always served the same amount of soup.

Even though we have bought more bowls twice since the start of the program, we have bought the same capacity of 280 ml/10 oz.  The three bowls we use are all different weights and of two different dimensions, but what counts is how much they hold.

The new bowls look smaller, but they are a thinner material and taller – but they hold the same.

Fun fact – how do we know when to buy more bowls? When we can’t get through a lunch without washing bowls for more guests!

You are always welcome to come to the window for a second bowl – if you need/want more, just give us time to feed as many mouths as we can at the start (by donation appreciated).

There’s no shrinkflation at Soup’s On.
