Rude

How could a person be so thoughtless and do such a hurtful thing, putting garbage on a memorial tree on Moore hill. I did not appreciate it. I became quite sad.

Do remove your garbage from the rock I put it on.

What would your parents think if they found out...............give it a thought.

If You are Ready for Earthquakes, You are Ready for Anything...

Earthquakes can impact all of us, no matter where you live in the province, which is why this year's webinar theme for Emergency Preparedness Week is "If you're ready for earthquakes, you're ready for anything!"

During this webinar, the team from PreparedBC will provide you with resources and tips for getting prepared for all types of emergencies, including earthquakes.

A seismologist with Natural Resources Canada will talk about:

BC's earthquake risk, and

The incoming National Earthquake Early Warning System, which can detect earthquakes and send out emergency alerts.

Special guests from the B.C. Earthquake Alliance will share information on managing risk, and the ShakeOutBC team will give a preview of how to stay safe and protect yourself during an earthquake and what to expect during the Great ShakeOutBC Drill in October.

Attendees will receive a list of resources discussed during the presentation and be entered to win a 4-person emergency kit.

WHO: Presented by: PreparedBC, the public education program of the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.

WHEN: Thursday, May 11, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Contacting the Fire Department

Everybody knows that 9-1-1 is the number to call in an EMERGENCY. But what if you think the issue isn’t really an emergency but you still think the Fire Department should be aware of it? That’s when you should phone the Duty Officer at 250-252-0228 or the Fire Chief at 250-252-0544. Those cell phones are answered 24/7 .

The Fire Hall phone (246-4834) is not answered 24/7 and in fact, some messages left on voice mail may not be accessed for a few days. Call the Duty Officer or Chief’s cell and we can advise you on how to proceed.

If a tree has come down on the hydro lines call 911 directly. The Duty Officer will be paged out to investigate if there is no fire, and the department will be paged out you see sparks or fire.

Reminder: Country Grocer Receipts

A big thanks to Thetis islanders for your continued and dedicated support of the 49th Parelle (Chemainus) receipt program for Harvest house food bank towards the purchase of gift certificates. Harvest house supports Chemainus, Crofton, Thetis & Penelakut.

I have confirmed that the program will continue with the Country Grocer. Please put your 49th and Country Grocer receipts in the container located on the table by the post office boxes.

Fred has also graciously allowed envelopes to be dropped in the mailbox to my box number 18-0

Thanks

Cemetery Clean Up Reminder

A reminder of the Cemetery Clean Up this coming Sunday (May 7th, 9:00 am -1:00 pm). The schedule was adjusted to ensure people can attend the TICA AGM at 1:00 pm. Some time outdoors, a light lunch and then off to Forbes Hall (in my mind, a perfect day). Please remember to bring gardening tools, trowels, rakes and water or other beverages. There will be some lunch food provided, but you may want to bring a snack as well.

The weather is warming up for summer and it looks to be a wonderful day to get in touch with our past and spruce up the cemetery for summer. Again, we encourage all Islanders to consider coming down, we are a close community and the people buried in the cemetery are part of our collective heritage.

Go down Forbes Road and turn left on St. Margaret's Lane and it leads to the cemetery. Looking forward to seeing you there.

New Rules for Posting to eSPOKES

In using the new program for eSPOKES, the team has discovered a fabulous feature…we are now able to schedule the time eSPOKES is emailed to all Subscribers. All announcements to be published must be sent to eSPOKES by 9:00 PM the evening prior to posting. This allows us to prepare eSPOKES the night before and schedule delivery the next morning.

If there are emergencies…ferry sailings, lost pets, we will try to do a second posting during the day.

We appreciate your cooperation as we can now sleep through the night!
