Tetanus and Shingles Vaccine Clinic Saturday, Sept 30th at Forbes Hall

Mohamed (Mo) Osman, the pharmacist from Rexall on Esplanade in Chemainus, has kindly agreed to come to Thetis on Sept 30th and give Tetanus and/or Shingles vaccines.

You are eligible for a tetanus booster if your last shot was 5 to 10 years ago. Tetanus is covered by BC Medical Services.

You are eligible for the Shingles vaccine (which is usually not covered by BC Medical Services) if:

1. You have never had the vaccine.

2. You had the older version of the vaccine (it was a one dose vaccine).

If you have had shingles, you may still be eligible for the vaccine - talk to Mo when you call. Note the Shingles vaccine is now a two-dose vaccine with the second dose given 2 - 6 months after the first.

We are all thrilled that Erin the Nurse Practitioner is coming to Thetis Health Clinic. The communication wrinkles are being worked out. Erin has a new Medical Office Assistant Kali who is now joining her when she comes to Thetis on Tuesdays.

Please call Kali at a new number 250 739 5700 extension 54814 to make appointments. This includes same day appointments for urgent health issues. If you are unable to contact Kari please call the main clinic at 250 739 5784 and someone will help book an appointment.

We got all our gear stolen from our boat last night, (morning of the 12th), it was on the pin outside our house on the West side.

Our neighbour called me today and told me he heard a boat around 3:30 this morning.

Plan Your Weekly Groceries with the Jollity Fresh List

We have an abundance of so many beautiful vegetables right now. The season is changing and we are picking daily as the cold, damp and mold is right around the corner.

Consider stocking up now for winter. It's a great time to freeze, dehydrate, pickle, ferment.

This week we will have lots of tomatoes, leeks, squash, beets, basil, beans, chard, eggplant, zucchini, cucumber along with everything else!

If you haven't tried these beautiful and tasty little squash, now is the time. Fry in coconut oil and garlic, bbq, stuff and roast... any which way they are so sweet and tender right now.

Tuesday: MODERATE Danger Class

We are dropping to MODERATE Danger Class on Sept. 12, Tuesday. All normal activities near the forest and in the forest can resume. Please be extra careful and vigilant with spark producing tools and machinery.

NO OPEN FIRES. No yard waste, campfires etc. Propane appliances okay.

Be aware that we might have to move back up to HIGH Danger Class later this month.

Capernwray Students - Ferry Traffic

Capernwray Harbour will be welcoming approximately 90 students on Friday, September 15, 2023! Students along with their family members will be traveling to Thetis between the 8:20am ferry and the 4:05pm ferry. We are excited to begin this new year with so many students and wanted to make sure the community was aware and informed of how this may affect ferry travel. 

Our students will also be traveling to Chemainus each Sunday to attend local churches, this will generally be the 7:55am ferry or the 9:10am ferry. Please feel free to check the online resources provided by Ann Dickie and Veronica Shelford. Many thanks to the Thetis Island Fire Department First Responders who made a very prompt and very professional visit to our cabin on Foster Pt Rd last week. 

It is so nice to know that Thetis Island is blessed with so many dedicated men and women who are ready to render assistance to their neighbors at a moment's notice at any time of the day.
