Friends of Furries Update

For those new to the island, or those who may have lost sight of it, the "Friends of Furries" organization is still active on Thetis. First started in 2003 by Lon Wood, Rhonda Andrews and Ken Hunter, to deal with unleashed dogs running in packs, they have stepped in when asked, saving the lives and health of countless animals, feral and domestic, both on Thetis and Penelakut.

There continues to be a need for this help. Many others have served the FoF cause over the years, but have gradually retired, and it is now largely maintained by Rhonda Andrews and Phil Hunter, with frequent aid from Dr. Martin Randle.

Keeping a low profile, they have long since run through the funds supplied by donations from friends and supporters, and have been paying for much of this help out of their own pockets. Any animal lovers on the island who would like to support their efforts and help out with donations, please let us know. It's unlikely they can continue without ongoing financial aid, so this is a serious and timely request.

I have offered to look after the accounting for them, so please contact me about donations.

And thank you!

Post Office Information

Monday November 13 the PO will be closed as it is a federal holiday and no mail will be delivered.

Note on addressed Junk Mail:
If your name is on it Liz and I are required by law to deliver it. If you do not want it tell the j mailers to stop. Do not pile this mail up on the table at the PO boxes if you do, we will put them back in your box. You do not want it get rid of it in your own garbage. That reads a tad harsh not meant to be but it is the process nonetheless.

My dad was at Dieppe and I had 6 uncles in the war so thanks to all of you for remembering today.

Call Outs for Baking at Forbes Hall

Often of late there have been numerous groups and events asking for treats for events at Forbes Hall. A small group of folks tend to show up bearing their baking, and they’re hoping to add some community members to their ranks.

Delivering a container of baked goods does not mean you need to volunteer at the event or to participate in the event in any way – other than your home-baked generosity.

So, when you see an e-spokes or someone asks you directly, please consider this gift to your community.

To those who keep putting on their aprons, a big thank you for your support!

Thanks

Drug Poisoning Advisory

The Vancouver Island health authority has issued a drug poisoning advisory saying people face an increased risk of overdose when using opioids and stimulants purchased on Vancouver Island.

If a member of our community comes across someone experiencing an overdose, they are asked to call 911 and stay with them, give Naloxone (ask any pharmacy for a free kit) and give one breath every five seconds.

Forbes Hall: Thank You

The Forbes Hall cleaners have been doing a great job keeping the hall clean and fresh. They have taken on new tasks as asked and turn up regularly to do their work.

The TICA Board thanks Connie Schermerhorn and Janice Young for their commitment to their work.

If you see them working away while you’re at the hall – please say thanks, they deserve it!
