Thank You

Greetings

A big thanks to Thetis islanders for your continued and dedicated support of the 49thParallel (Chemainus) receipt program for Harvest house food bank towards the purchase of gift certificates. Harvest house supports Chemainus, Crofton, Thetis & Penelakut

I have confirmed that the program will continue with the Country Grocer. Please put your 49th and Country grocer receipts in the container located on the table by the post office boxes. Fred has also graciously allowed envelopes to be dropped in the mailbox to my box number 18-0

Thanks

Anne-Marie

Jollity Weekly Order Reminders

We are making the trip for bagels and True Grain bakery most weeks again now.

Please submit local dairy and baking requests via our order form by Monday at 5pm.

https://www.jollityfarm.ca/order-form

Our friends in Saanich might have some more fresh veggies to add to our market haul for this week, so stay tuned!

Grocery pick-up from Community Farm Store, Superstore and Country Grocer (formerly 49th) still available each week. If you aren't sure of how it works, please ask.

We haven't quite decided on the menu for this weekend, but for a little teaser, this is what we are thinking....

- Rhubarb Custard Bars (they were so popular last year, so better bring em back)

- Kale, Parsley or Kale/Cilantro & Pumpkin Seed Pesto

- Jolly Green Sauce (great as a salad dressing or dip)

With thanks,

Jollity Farmers

Thank You

Thank you to all who participated in our Knitting and crafting bee during fall winter and spring. It was a lot of fun, and a lovely way to enjoy each other’s company. We will resume the last Friday in September so hope to see you all then.

Also, a big thank you to our tea and cookie lady Gloria, who delighted us with many scrumptious delights each week.

Cheers

Helen

The Thetis Island Improvement District manages the funds for the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department. As chair of the Board of Trustees, I will be holding a public information session in the multi-purpose room at Forbes Hall on Saturday May 6th at 11 AM.

This will be an informal session for those of you who might have questions on the role of the Improvement District and the ways in which we interact with the Fire Department.

Thetis Island Improvement District

The Thetis Island Improvement District will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at 11 AM at Forbes Hall Community Centre.

The purpose of this public meeting is to receive the audited financial statements for 2022, report on the operations of the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department, the Improvement District, and any other items of business that may arise.

https://www.thetisislandfire.ca/tiid/financial/Thetis_Island_Improvement_District_2022_Audit-Final.pdf

As posted on April 13, 2023, two (2) trustees, Graeme Shelford, and Keith Rush, are up for re-election. They have both agreed to stand for another three (3) year term.

Dixon Strachan has put his name forward to run for one of the two trustee positions. Mr. Strachan has completed the nomination form with two nominators and meets the other eligibility criteria.

We will hold a secret ballot election at the end of the AGM. To be eligible to vote at an Improvement District election and run for the board of trustees, individuals must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older, a resident of BC for at least six months prior to the vote, and own land in the Improvement District.

The agenda for the meeting is:

Territorial acknowledgement

Call to order and welcome

Opening remarks and introductions

Approval of the July 9th, 2022, AGM minutes

Trustee Remuneration

Audit report/financials/2023 budget update

Committee reports

Fire department report

Trustee election

Adjourn

Please plan to come out to support your local government and volunteer fire department.

Wildfire Season

The Structure Protection Unit (SPU) auxiliary of the TIVFD is already gearing up for this summer’s wildfire season.

Now is a good time for you to also get prepared, by safely clearing off your roof, and cleaning out gutters. In the event of a wildfire, embers can be blown downwind and easily ignite dry leaves, needles, cones and other debris in gutters and on your roof.

The following link has a full list of quick and easy FireSmart tips, landscaping ideas (using fire-resistant plants), plus introduces the Home Partners Program (HPP).https://firesmartbc.ca/

You can also apply for a free HPP FireSmart home assessment with property-specific recommendations on how to mitigate wildfire risk for your home.

PAG Open Sundays from 10 - 12

The People's Apothecary Garden (Lot 62 North Cove Road) will be open every Sunday between 10am - 12pm until September! Feel free to drop by to explore the space and learn about our growing medicinal garden. If you are feeling up to it, we are always looking for extra hands in the garden - for basic maintenance and/or to share your plant-y wisdom.

Other than being a delightful garden to stroll around in, the PAG is foremost a learning space. We are currently seeking community members who would be open to sharing their knowledge and/or skills related to gardening and medicinal plants - harvesting techniques, salve making, pruning, natural dyes, tinctures, etc!

If you are interested, please give me a shout at: charlotte@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org

Happy Spring!

Charlotte
