Fire Weather Forecast for the Weekend

We are continuing with HIGH DANGER CLASS regulations into the weekend, and this means that High Risk Activities can continue daily until 1 pm with your increased vigilance. We are drying out quickly again, and we may even be facing EXTREME conditions next week. Please be careful, and if you see smoke, call 911.

TIVFD

FRIDAY: Light-moderate north-westerlies continue over Haida Gwaii. Dryness increases over the eastern sections of the mainland southern zones and over inland central and southern Vancouver Island.

OUTLOOK: Saturday to Monday: Unsettled weather continues on Saturday with a pattern similar to Friday’s with the highest chances of lightning shifting to central and northern Vancouver Island. There is a caveat in that the pattern suggests a risk of early morning convection over the NW Washington coast that may affect southern Vancouver Island and the SW Fraser zone early Saturday morning. But it's a remote possibility at this point. Continued unsettled conditions over northern zones on Sunday as the upper low slowly lifts across northern Vancouver Island. Similar conditions continue into Monday - the upper low is very slow to move. Heat builds and dryness expands over southern zones Sunday PM through Monday.

CONFIDENCE/DISCUSSION: Eyes on the remote possibility of early morning convection that may affect southern Vancouver Island and the SW Fraser zone late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

6 TO 10 DAY: Tuesday to Friday of next week: A generally drier and warmer pattern is shaping up for next week for southern zones as the typical summertime US SW ridge builds inland to the north.

Thanks

12 Days of Christmas was a fantastic success. Thanks to Jeannine, the Fire Department and all the generous people of Thetis Island over 300 lbs of food has been donated to the food bank.

Indeed, it really was Christmas in July.

Thanks again.

Family Fun Day ~ Aug. 12th

Anticipation is high, and excitement is growing as the Thetis Island Community Fund team hosts the Annual Family Fun Day for all Thetis Islanders on August 12th from 11AM to 3PM at Forbes Hall.

Thank you to those who have already added their names to the roster of volunteers to create a great day for all ages. Mark your calendars to attend, laugh and enjoy the company of others in some good old-fashioned games and tasty food.

We are looking for a few "Fresh and Rested" crew members to help return Forbes Hall and grounds to pristine condition after 3PM. The tired food and activities volunteers will need some support and your assistance would be appreciated. Please advise Tricia or Lynn Hunter if you are willing to participate in "post event" wrap up of this great event. Email them at communityfund@thetisisland.net or call Tricia Hunter 250-246-8954 or Lynn Hunter 250-246-2176.

Bake Sale Baking Needed

The Bake Sale is coming up very soon (only 10 days away,) and we are hoping to have an idea of what people might be bringing. Could you let me know by email, forseth@shaw.ca or at 250-210-8886. So far, I have heard from only a few people.

This is a great fund raiser for the community and sometimes makes as much as the book sale. But we need lots of goodies to make that happen. Cookies, cakes, tarts, muffins, granola, fudge and candy concoctions, bread, buns, etc, etc.

Thanks in advance for your contributions.

Liz Forseth

What's Fresh @ Jollity Farm

Weekly grocery planning with in-season produce!

Fruit is coming and going quickly this year as all farmers have experienced such hot and dry temperatures. Melons, cherries and plums are pretty much done but we'll have some fresh picked blueberries this week.

Our friends will have red currants available next week. Are you interested... if so, let us know and we'll order a few flats.
Plucked fresh this week:

Flower bouquets and posies
Tomatoes - Mixed cherry & San Marzano
Salad
Beans
Eggplant - Asian variety (so good in a stir-fry!)
Zucchini
Cucumber
Beets
Carrots
Greens of many varieties - arugula, pac choi, chard, kale
Cabbage
Potatoes
Garlic
Herbs - basil & parsley
Blueberries

DUMPLINGS are back in stock - Chicken Lemongrass or Shrimp Chive
ICE CREAM SANDWICHES are also back in stock - one flavour this week plus all tubs have been refreshed

On the Kombucha tap this week:

Citrus Ginger
Raspberry Lemonade

With thanks,
