Reminder: Slow Down Day Today! (Sunday)

With school back in session this week and the days becoming shorter and darker, now is the time to be extra cautious on our roads. In an effort to raise awareness and promote road safety, today from 10am-3pm will be the first Thetis Island Slow Down Day!

Join us in the yard next to the People's Apothecary Garden (#62 North Cove Road) to say hello and share creative ideas to help make our roads safer. We invite everyone to walk or cycle the road from the corner of Pilkey Point road to the corner of Mission Road or join volunteers prepping a chip trail. There will be supplies available to make signs and a lemonade and bake sale at the yellow farm stand on Mission road (smiles from kiddos included with every purchase).

Everyone is welcome and costumes, horns and party hats are encouraged. Let's make a scene and raise the level of awareness around speed and safety for all road users.

Parking: we suggest parking at the school, Forbes Hall or on Mission road.

Come say hello and help us have some fun today!

Brianna and Carolyn

Thefts and Thanks

Thank you to all who have been posting about the recent wave of suspicious activity and thefts on the water after dark these past several weeks.

Thanks to the sharp eyes of BC ferry personnel our canoe along with other reported stolen items were located abandoned and retrieved from a beach in Chemainus not far from the park.

Thank you to the BC ferries crew for all they do to bring us home safely every day and they many ways they look out for our community.

We are thankful to be part of such of wonderful community.

Please keep reporting all suspicious activity to the RCMP non-emergency line.

It seems there are areas in Chemainus and Ladysmith known to police were items “tend” to end up.

Free Single Beds

Two twin/single beds including frames and mattresses. Size 39" x 75" each. Seldom used, very clean, no smells etc. Identical frames fold flat for easy transport.

Frames are identical, but the mattresses are different types. One mattress is a conventional type and the other is 8" dense foam. The foam mattress has a cell structure top and washable zip cover. Both very comfortable. Pick up in Chemainus near the ferry. Donation to the hall fund appreciated as payment.

Alert from e-Spokes!

Not all items are reaching e-Spokes before the 9PM deadline.

Sometimes they have been mailed before that, but just not come into espokes@gmail.com  on time or even during the night.

Not sure what's happening. I do refresh to check.

Slow Down Day this Sunday

With school back in session this week and the days becoming shorter and darker, now is the time to be extra cautious on our roads.

Cyclists, walkers, children on bikes, moms with strollers - we're all at risk on Thetis Island roads. In an effort to raise awareness and promote road safety, this Sunday from 10am-3pm will be the first Thetis Island Slow Down Day!

Join us in the yard next to the People's Apothecary Garden (#62 North Cove Road) to share creative ideas, ID the high-risk corners on the Island, walk or cycle the road and join volunteers who will be prepping a chip trail from the corner of Pilkey Point road to the corner of Mission Road. There will be supplies available to make signs and a lemonade stand and bake sale to raise funds for the chip trail. Everyone is welcome and costumes, horns and party hats are encouraged. Let's make a scene and raise the level of awareness around speed and safety for all road users.

Parking: we suggest parking at the school, Forbes Hall or on Mission road.

We hope for a great turn out and a fun event,

Brianna and Carolyn

Community Activities at Forbes Hall

We’re now into September, and it’s time to book the Forbes Hall Calendar with Community Activities.

What is a Community Activity? It is a weekly or once monthly activity, gathering or meeting that all islanders are welcome to join, at no charge. These activities may be age, gender or participant specific, such as Women’s Health Circle, Toddlers Group, AA, etc.

Established activities have confirmed their bookings for the upcoming season, and we’re ready for any other folks who want to see their ideas become reality! Please contact
info@forbeshall.ca if you’re wanting to start and lead a community activity at Forbes Hall.

Community Activities are free to islanders due to the generosity of the membership of the Thetis Island Community Association.

Thank you,

Ann Dickie
