Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 7:23AM What’s happening on Saturday at Forbes Hall? We are celebrating all that we do together!
Thetis Island Associations, Committees, Groups and Societies are all gathering under one roof to share with Thetis Islanders and visitors all that they do to make Thetis the very special community that it is.
Are you wondering who does what?
Ask questions! We know it can get confusing about who does what with Thetis, Island or Community in most group’s names. Having those words in our names reminds volunteers just who they are doing it all for. So, come visit and talk to the people who are involved.
Children are welcome and can enjoy an activity with the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy.
Enter your name for a chance at one of the many door prizes. Using the provided passport, ask lots of questions and enter into the draw for the Grand Prize!
Enjoy some live music, and a BBQ lunch.
Smokies, or Roasted Veg in a bun with a bag of chips for $5. Yes, you read that right! $5 for lunch! Beverages, Fresh Baking and Ice Cream Sandwiches at the Beverage Station – everything there is $1.
Looking forward to seeing our community, new friends and visitors join us for a very Thetis Island Day!

Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 7:21AM The Thetis Island Volunteer Firefighters Society will be at Community Day at Forbes Hall on Saturday and will have a sign-up sheet for those interested in purchasing a Wasp Wildfire Sprinkler Protection Kit for your residence.
We are able to purchase these kits at a reduced cost as a fundraiser for the Society and additionally pass some savings on to you. The kits contain two lengths of hose, two sprinkler units and two mounting brackets and if purchased at Amazon would cost $229.95 plus taxes. The Society will be selling the kits for $200 each (taxes included), a savings of over $50 when you add in the sales tax.
But we need at least TEN people to sign up to purchase.
Stop by the TIVFD Community Day table on Saturday to look at the kit and talk to a member.

Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 7:20AM To our Thetis Island friends and neighbours, regarding our recent excavation:
Two weeks ago, we began what we thought would be a simple excavation for a garage/studio behind our house. However, within a foot we hit Thetis Island rock (which our daughter nicknamed The Great Canadian Shield) and we spent several days breaking and removing it. We wish to apologize for the noise and thank island residents for their patience.
We especially wish to thank Chief Caldbeck and Captain Dave Tarris, Duty Officer, for their friendly and professional advice and support during this early extreme fire season.

Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 7:18AM Certified Organic Strawberries
We are collecting extra flats of fresh picked berries this Thursday. Now that we are in the main season the price per pint and per flat has gone down.
If you'd like to order a flat of 12 for $80 (that's $6.60/each compared to the $8.5/pint they are selling for in Victoria non-organic!!) let us know and we can arrange for you to collect them Thurs, Fri or Sat. morning.

Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 6:12PM My name is Athenia. My puppy Sparkles took my very special watch off the counter and chewed it up. My Mom said she will buy me another one, but I have to pay her back. My Mom thinks I'm really good at weeding so I would love to come and help you weed your flowers or garden. I charge $3.00 for 1 hour. I'm very friendly and a really hard worker. If you want to meet me, I will be volunteering on Community Day on Saturday at the TIES table. My Mom also said you can email her, and she will tell me about it. My Mom will come with me and stay in the car while I work.
I'm done school the end of next week and I can come work after that anytime.

Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 6:11PM Campfires will remain prohibited on Vancouver Island and most Gulf Islands – along with tiki and similar kind of torches and chimineas -- until October 31, 2023, or until the order is rescinded.
Category 2 and Category 3 fires will remain prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre, and effective at noon Pacific Daylight Time on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, will also include the Haida Gwaii Resource District. This prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human caused wildfires and protect public safety and will be in place until Tuesday, October 31, 2023, or until the order is rescinded.
The Category 2 and Category 3 prohibition also restricts the following activities and equipment:
Fireworks;
Sky Lanterns;
Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description;
Binary Exploding Targets;
Air curtain burners.
The use of outdoor stoves is not prohibited. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.
These prohibitions apply to all public and private land within the Coastal Fire Centre jurisdiction, unless specified otherwise in an enactment (e.g., in a local government bylaw). Always check with local government authorities to see if any other burning restrictions are in effect.
