Spring Annuals plus Requests for Planters & Baskets +++ SOIL & COMPOST

Now that the danger of cold weather and snow seem to have past, we are taking perennials out of the greenhouse and will slowly start stocking the nursery with spring flowers.

If you are ready to start your spring planting, please send us a note and let us know. We are willing to do our first supply run to our local grower this week, with new stock available starting Saturday, March 18 .

Some of the things we can get now:

Ranunculus

Pansies & Viola

Nasturtium

Bellis

Cyclamen

Lupins

Anemone

Dianthus

+ Potted Bulbs:

Narcissus Tete a Tete (mini daffs)

Hyacinth

Tulip

If you'd like us to design and plant your hanging baskets and planters this year, please send us an email or text. You may drop off your empty and clean baskets and planters off at the farm on Saturdays or leave down at the Kiosk (please label clearly). Things we need to know; light exposure, your desired colour palette, water availability.... or you can let us just go wild and design something beautiful for you.

If your planters or containers are too heavy to move, we are happy to help you pick up lovely planting combinations. We use organic potting soil and farm made compost to fill baskets and planters and all plants are either grown from seed on-farm or sourced responsibly from local growers who do not use harmful sprays. Our priority is pollinator enhancement and protection!

Last and maybe most important... are you interested in bulk topsoil and organic compost again this year?

We are starting to gather a list and getting pricing and available delivery dates, so please let us know if you are interested and what sort of volume you are looking for. The minimum order is 1 yard.

With thanks,

Jollity Farm

Woody's Hungry for *Branches, Branches, Branches*

Wondering what to do with that pile of branches?

Frustrated with aligning your schedule and the venting index?

Maybe, Woody, the trailer mounted Woodchipper is your Answer. He's ready and available to serve Thetis Island. Woody is a 49Hp industrial woodchipper, hungry for wood up to 12" diameter.

In approximately an hour, two feeders can handily convert an accessible, neatly stacked VW Bug sized branch pile into ground cover material. More feeders are faster. He is definitely not a polite diner, he enjoys filling his mouth with as many branches as his feeders can shovel in, occasionally, he will burp when fed too much to fast!

Too heavy to travel offroad into wet areas, the closer your branch piles are to an access road the less time you pay for...To save even more chipper time costs, placing the branches as you’re piling them with their butts all facing the direction the chipper can access allows them to be more readily removed from the pile and fed into the chipper.

First hour @ $150

Following hours @ $125/hr

I have catalogued this book in the gardening section, but it has so much more information. The book was donated by islanders who thought it should be shared.

Health Care Meet & Greet Summary

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Forbes Hall Islanders gathered to meet Nurse Practitioner Erin VanWieren, Social Worker Marcela Mrnka, and Community Paramedic Vinh Pham. A detailed description of the presentation is attached but to be brief....

FAQs
1. What does a nurse practitioner do?
Nurse Practitioners are primary care providers who work independently. They diagnose, order tests, prescribe medicines and refer to specialists.

2. When will Erin VanWieren start?
Erin expects to start seeing patients next Tuesday, March 14th. Her appointments will begin with the first 20 from the top of the waiting list of people who are not currently attached to a primary care provider and registered with HealthConnect as a starting point; these patients will be contacted soon. Visits will be in-person on Tuesdays and virtually on Thursdays. If you are not sure you are registered, please call 811 and the nurse can confirm your registration.

3. Can I see Erin if I already have a primary care provider?
Erin’s first task is to see those patients who have no primary care provider; once these patients have been seen she will then reassess. It is a work in progress.

4. What if I have an urgent health complaint?
Erin has ensured there will be same day appointments for those with urgent health issues. She will see any patients in this situation even if they have a primary care provider off island.
Remember to call 911 for emergencies!

5. How do I make an appointment to see Erin?
A phone number will be communicated once it is available.

6. Who else works with Erin?
Marcela Mrnka, Registered Social worker works with Erin to assist people who require access to the many other agencies that provide care. This includes mental health care, living situation assistance etc. Marcela will not have a set schedule with Erin but is available to help when needed. Vinh Pham, Community Paramedic, will assist Erin and other Primary Care Providers’ clients with in-home care, in-home health care monitoring and use of the equipment. Vinh Pham continues with his Vitals Monitoring and providing clinics to the Thetis Island Community.

7. Who loans mobility aids etc.?
The HELP (Health Equipment Loan Program) is now back at Forbes Hall. Please contact David Reay for any equipment you might need: crutches, walkers, etc.

Thank You Message

A huge thank you to the community for coming out to support the school's Art Gallery on Thursday!

Students were really proud to show their work and were very excited to hear that we raised over $600! We will be sharing proceeds with the People's Apothecary Garden. There are a few pieces that have yet to be picked up—please feel free to stop in after Spring break (we'll be back at school on March 27th). Thank you.
