Reminder: Forbes Hall Library

Each week there are scheduled times when a volunteer library attendant is on duty.
We look forward to having you join us, we’re there to answer questions, talk about ideas, and generally there to help you out, if needed.  On Sundays we offer tea and goodies – a happy place to meet for a chat with fellow island bibliophiles.
Hours:

Saturday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm
Sunday 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm
Monday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm

The library is always open after 10:00 am when there is a Community Activity at the hall and the entry door is open.  We have a simple honour system for signing out books and DVDs, instructions are at the sign out desk.  If you need help, ask the attendant on duty.  For returns when the building is closed, please use the drop box by the Courtside Entrance.

We hope you enjoy our lovely little island library.
Celine,
your volunteer librarian

Another Q Proof Needing Pickup

If anyone is going to be in Duncan today (Saturday) between 11am and 1pm, would you have time to stop by Apple Press at 430 Trans Canada Hwy,  just north of Coronation Avenue?  We’re awaiting another proof of the Quarterly.

Let me know and thank you if it’s possible!

Thank You, Again!

Just a short note to once again say a big THANK YOU to all those thoughtful Thetis Islanders who have continued to save their used postage stamps for the BC Cancer Society.

As a reminder, any country, any quantity is appreciated.

I check the small box at the mail box area frequently and have been pleasantly surprised many times by the number of stamps people have left.

Once again, a big THANK YOU to all who have donated.

A Night Not to Miss

Sometimes people travel a long way for classy entertainment when they can find it right here on Thetis.

Consider the show featuring Michelle Merlindth at our community centre March 24.

Michelle will perform The Songbird of Vienna, a beautifully crafted story poem she wrote and recited on stage at the Vancouver Fringe Festival last fall. I was glad to be among several islanders who attended one of her six performances there. We agreed that Michelle is an elegant talent waiting to be ‘discovered’.

Her whimsical story involves an aspiring composer whose failing career is rescued by a most unusual circumstance, a tale for animal lovers and human dreamers.

Three of Thetis’ fine musicians will also perform. Watch for further details. Admission is by donation to the show’s sponsor, School Orchards Africa, a charity founded by Maureen and Wayne Loiselle.

March 15th: Meet Your Elected Representatives

On March 15th (yes, the Ides of March) Thetis Island is hosting local elected members from the federal government, provincial government and Islands Trust. Unfortunately, Jesse McClinton, our CVRD Area G rep is unable to attend.

Attending will be:

  • Alistair MacGregor, MP (may be a little late)
  • Doug Routley, MLA
  • Peter Luckham, Islands Trust
  • Ken Hunter, Islands Trust

They will be joining the community for Soup's On at the Hall. After lunch we will go into a bit more formal event with presentations from island groups.

This is an opportunity to meet your local politicians and discuss issues that are important to you. If you are unable to attend but want to raise a particular issue, please contact me and I will make sure it gets passed along.
