Friday, August 4, 2023 at 8:09AM This week’s visiting artist is Deb, of Winchelsea Designs! Deb is a brilliant glass artist whose work is inspired by the beauty of coastal Vancouver Island.
Deb is fascinated with the interplay of glass and light. Most of her larger pieces are uniquely carved and showcase her love of the ocean and all creatures within. Deb’s passion and attention to detail result in quality fused glass work each time she opens the kiln.
Don’t miss out! Saturday 10am-2pm at the Summer Market at Howling Wolf Farm.

Wild Creatives: Leaf Garlands / Buntings (all ages)
Location: The Nature House at The Portal, 254 North Cove Road
We hope this message finds you in great spirits and filled with enthusiasm for nature's wonders! We are thrilled to extend our warmest invitation to an awesome leaf bunting craft day, where we'll come together to create no-sew leaf bunting with wax paper and pressed leaves to decorate our spaces.
6:30 pm start
ThINC Tank - Screening and Discussion: Our Daily Bread (youth, adults)
Location: The Nature House at The Portal, 254 North Cove Road
Highly mechanized systems and tremendous scale, ‘Our Daily Bread’ provides a realistic view on the internal workings of modern food production. This unique documentary by German filmmaker Nikolaus Geyrhalter abstains from the use of voiceover narration and dramatic music, allowing the audience to draw their own conclusions about industrial agriculture. As objective as a film can get, ‘Our Daily Bread’ doesn’t tell you what to think, nor does it propose alternatives to the status-quo, but it does provide ample food for thought.
If you are interested in getting a glimpse of our modern industrialized food system, join us for a viewing and discussion this Thursday evening.
Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 8:15AM In support of the Spune’luxutth’ March for the Children, BC Ferries will be providing complimentary vehicle and passenger travel between Chemainus, Thetis Island, and Penelakut Island on Monday, August 7, for those travelling to commemorate the lives lost and those who did not return home from the former Kuper Island residential school.
The vessel servicing this route can carry up to 26 vehicles. Travellers may choose to travel as foot passengers or carpool to avoid possible early morning sailing waits.
Penelakut Island residents departing Telegraph Harbour can find the August 7 schedule here, and Thetis Island residents departing Preedy Harbour can review the schedule here.
BC Ferries continues to stand with all Indigenous people, families, communities and residential school survivors who have suffered significant trauma throughout Canada’s history. Our deepest condolences go out to families and communities in mourning. Every child matters. We stand with the Penelakut Tribe during this difficult time.
