Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 8:58AM Here is the forecast for the next few days from the Coastal Fire Centre. If we do indeed get rain on Tuesday and showers continuing for a few days after that, we will be able to drop out of EXTREME and open up to High Hazard Activities again, at least for a few days. Fingers and toes crossed.
OUTLOOK: Sunday to Tuesday: Sunday is the day with the highest chance of convection/lightning this long weekend as the combination of an upper trough passing thru Haida Gwaii in the afternoon and the upper ridge to the east spread deeper, but still elevated, subtropical moisture across the Fire Centre. By Monday, the upper trough has moved inland to the east of the Fire Centre and the airmass cools and stabilizes with a jump in minimum RHs. At the same time, a new and stronger upper trough is approaching Haida Gwaii from the northwest. On Tuesday, that trough lands on the coast, bringing widespread rain, a further drop in temperatures and gusty winds to all zones. Higher amounts of precipitation are expected in northern and western sections of the Fire Centre with lesser amounts south and east.

Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 8:57AM Howdy to any and all Thetis Tradesmen, Tinkers, Toy Makers, Inventors Etc. I'm looking for a new safety switch for Pioneer Pacific Camp's commercial immersion blender. I've identified it as a Marquardt Subminiature Snap Action Switch -1050.0202 with mushroom top push button. The one pictured in the following link is a1050.1202 for push connectors while the 1050.0202 has solder tabs. Either one will do the job for me should you have one. https://eg.rsdelivers.com/product/marquardt/10501202/marquardt-mushroom-shaped-micro-switch-tab-5-a-250/7410735
Thankful to be able to purchase or replace a couple should you have one or more on hand.

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm S4: Great Grizzlies with Frances Backhouse
(2:00 - 2:45: family-friendly activity; 3:00 - 4:00 pm: presentation)
Location: The Nature House at The Portal, 254 North Cove Road
Grizzly bears, one of North America – and British Columbia’s – most iconic wildlife species, once roamed across half the continent. Today, their range and numbers are much diminished and they face many challenges. Join Frances Backhouse, author of Grizzly Bears: Guardians of the Wilderness, to learn about what makes grizzlies special and what they need to survive and thrive.
Frances Backhouse is an author and environmental journalist who lives in Victoria. She previously worked as a biologist, including an amazing five-month stint studying grizzly bears in the Khutzeymateen Valley – the inspiration for her latest book.
Visit www.backhouse.ca to learn more about Frances and her writing.
In addition to our normal wares, we will be selling Frances's books: 'Grizzly Bears: Guardians of the Wilderness' and 'Beavers: Radical Rodents and Ecosystem Engineers' at the Howling Wolf Market between 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Saturday. Look for the blue tent! (Oh - and if you miss us on Saturday, Frances's books will also be available at the talk on Sunday!)
