Forbes Hall – Doors Left Unlocked, Yet Again!

Recently we’ve had a spate of doors being left unlocked or wide open.

· Tuesday the left Front door was found unlocked.

· Boardroom French doors wide open upon arrival Wednesday morning.

· Patio door out of Assembly Hall was found unlocked one day last week.

· Courtside door found unlocked two times in the past two weeks.

All activity leaders, meeting and event organizers are responsible for locking up the hall afterwards. It is their responsibility to orient others within their group of what needs to be done to access and exit the hall. This fall TICA will be holding orientations for all activity leaders / co-leaders, for those who organize meetings and events, and for those who are frequent users of the hall. Use of the hall will be contingent on these orientations.

Support Hope & Health with the Purchase of Maynard Johnny Jr T-shirts this Weekend

TICA will be contributing 25% of all Maynard Johnny Jr Artwork T-shirt sales this weekend to Hope & Health, in recognition of Spune’luxtth’ Sulxwe’en March for the Children on August 3^rd.

T-shirts will be available at the TICA Merchandise table outside on the entry deck at Forbes Hall at this Saturday’s Book & Bake Sale.

TICA is honoured to have Maynard Johnny’s artwork displayed on the exterior of Forbes Hall Community Centre. Through our work with Maynard, the TICA board learned about his mission with indigenous youth and have used a portion of sales of the Maynard Johnny Jr.’s t-shirts to support his chosen charity of Hope and Health. The contributions go directly to supporting the Penelakut youth with sports equipment and kit.

As Maynard says, “Be the Change.”

From the Library

Did you know the amount of funds from the baking pretty much equals the books. Wow!

The formal drop off for donated books is Thursday, yikes tomorrow, 10-1. If that does not work let me know. Boxes can be left outside the hall under the roof if needed.

Also, Carolyn Askew has volunteered to pick up books if needed.

Also, Gurk will be at the beverage station for something to go with your tasty baking treat!

2027 Thetis Island Calendar: Photo Submission Information

Requirements, reminders and information for submitting your photos.

Meeting these four requirements will help to ensure your photo makes the first cut.

• High resolution minimum of 1.5 MB: if you take photos with your phone, email the photo from your photo app not through another app such as Facebook.
• Note that photos will be cropped to landscape orientation, edited as needed and enlarged to 8” x10” for printing.
• People: no identifiable people will be included. Images must be of, on or from Thetis – local images only.
• Focus: check that the image is clear and in focus – if using a phone, enlarge the image to check before sending.

Note: as the calendars are landscape oriented, it is important that when a portrait-oriented photo is submitted that the file is large enough to have high resolution once cropped and enlarged to 8½” x 11”.

Include the following in your email:

• Your first and last name (not all email addresses let us know who you are)
• Location or identifier: where the photo was taken from, what the photo is showing, etc.
• Month photo was taken in.

All submitted photos are given with your permission to be edited as needed, used in the calendar, displayed in Forbes Hall, used in the Quarterly, or in any other way that benefits Forbes Hall Community Centre. All photos will be used with photo credit.

All proceeds benefit TICA and the Forbes Hall Community Centre. Calendars will be available in November 2026. The 2027 Thetis Island Calendar will sell for $30.

Here's what's on today!

2:00-3:30 TIME Jr: Protecting Endangered Species (youth 8-15)
Location: Nature House at The Portal - park at Heneage House (the wine-coloured building) or the Fairyslipper parking area

This week we will be learning about some special creatures that have become endangered, and what we can do to help them recover. Come create an informative sign about the species of your choice, that will be placed somewhere on the island to raise awareness about the importance of protecting it!
