Friday, October 3, 2025 at 7:44AM The weather looks to be about to dry up again, so this is a great time to inspect your driveway and trim your branches overhead and on the road sides to the specifications laid out in the Thetis Island Improvement District Service Capacity Policies regulations.
Driveway widths must be maintained to a minimum 12 feet (3.66 meters) and the height be maintained to a minimum of 15 feet (4.6 meters), cleared of any obstacles for Emergency vehicles.
If you have a driveway gate it must open inwards and either remain unlocked or keys permanently placed with the fire department. (If you use a combination lock you must provide the fire department with the combination.)
Cover your trimmed branches from the October rains or chip them.
No Yard Waste burning until November 1st. Fire Permits are not required after November 1st.
You need to check the Ministry of Environment’s Venting Index for a GOOD day to burn after November 1st. Thetis Island falls within the South Vancouver Island’s HIGH Smoke Sensitivity Zone.

Friday, October 3, 2025 at 7:43AM Weather Forecast
SYNOPSIS: A low-pressure system sat off the coast of Vancouver Island for the Thursday. It pulled more moisture into the Coastal Fire Centre. Showers and periods of rain continued into the afternoon but started to lessen as the day wore on. There was slight risk of thunderstorms which could produce lightning but it would have been accompanied by rain if it occurred (Note: this forecast is published Friday but the info came in Thursday afternoon.) By the overnight period and into Friday this low will slide well to the south of the province and a ridge of high pressure starts to build in from the Pacific. Friday will be a “transition day," with similar conditions to Thursday. A cold front will slide over the province from the NW and will just “side swipe” the Coastal Fire Centre. The impact of this low cold front will be minimal.
OUTLOOK:
Saturday to Monday: Saturday brings bigger changes as the ridge of high pressure in the Pacific starts to build inland and over the west coast. Strong winds with gusts in the 30-40 km/h range will be contained to the lee side of the Coastal Mountain Range. With this ridge, we see a return to a warming and drying period for one to three days. While temperatures remain seasonal, some southern areas could see an uptick by 2-4 degrees into the start of next week. The Southeast corner of the Fraser Zone will see the driest conditions and lower minimum relative humidity values.
Please note that this will be the final Friday Fire Weather Forecast of the season.
We hope you have found this forecast useful and informative throughout the past six months.
