Donations being Accepted to Support Elder Florence James Recovery

Dear Thetis Community,

Some of you may have heard that our dear Penelakut Elder Florence James suffered a stroke on the ferry on Saturday morning, on her way to work at a healing retreat in Lake Cowichan. She was rushed to Victoria General and is now out of ICU and is in recovery. She is grateful for everyone's loving thoughts, prayers and words, and for candles lit with her healing in mind.

With permission of her family, I am inviting and coordinating donations to support her recovery and alleviate some financial stress in not being able to work for a period of time. E-transfers can be accepted and directly deposited into Florence's account by her niece Shelby Cross at Shelby-_@hotmail.com. If anyone prefers to make a cash donation, I am willing to collect and e-transfer to Shelby. I can also collect cheques made out to Florence James and get them to Shelby to deposit. I can be reached by email at  kelly_bannister@telus.net or cell 250-252-0111.

Please contact me with any questions or if you have any challenges in making a donation directly via Shelby. Florence has been an unending source of loving guidance and cultural bridging between our island communities for decades. I know she is held dear by many of us. Thank you for considering this invitation as an opportunity to support her in a time of need, and as you are able.
