I am searching for a used satellite dish that anyone is trying to get rid of. A student friend of mine wants to use it in a space experiment. Just wondering if anybody has such a thing and I would be happy to come by and pick it up.

We found a black and blue toque on Pilkey Point Road (between Clam Bay Rd and Sunrise Point Rd) Wednesday.
If it's yours, come by lot 129 to claim it -- it's on top of the blue tarp outside of the native-style gates.

2:00 pm start: Junior Biologist - Slugsational at the Nature House, The Portal (254 North Cove Road) (kids 8 - 12)
This week we will focus on the slimy creatures found on Thetis. We will learn about the special adaptations of slugs and snails, and their unique mating scheme. We will go on a walk to find our local species and study them in-depth, and we will make some nice snail art and take pictures with a snail silhouette!
Hi to everyone.
The time has arrived for my septic tank to be pumped out. The usual protocol is to have 3 people who need this service, before Coast Environmental comes to Thetis Island. This keeps the costs down for all of us.
I have some prices of the service
Pump out $250.
Disposal .40 per gallon
$10. Fuel surcharge
Ferry fee shared between 3 people ( they didn't have that available )
To book your appt call Coast Environmental
250 748 4611 and talk to Jessica
I was planning to have this service done in August.
Hope everyone is enjoying the beauty of summer on our peaceful island.

Hello Islanders!
The return of Thetis Island Family Fun Day is just around the corner! The Thetis Island Community Fund will be once again hosting this fun for all ages event on Saturday August 6th, from 11:00 to 2:30 at Forbes Hall and the school playground. There will be races and challenges for kids and a collection of carnival style games for all to enjoy, plus a BBQ, popcorn, drinks, treats, and small prizes for game winners!
11:30 - 12:30 - Kids races and challenges (adults welcome to join in!)
12:30 - 1:30 - BBQ
1:30 - 2:30 - Carnival games
The TICF is looking for volunteers to help construct games, set-up and take down the event space, manage game stalls, and take photographs. Volunteers have been a big part of the success of Family Fun Days in the past and we’re hoping that there are some generous and enthusiastic islanders out there who can help ensure this family fun day is no exception! Please contact the TICF via communityfund@thetisisland.net to volunteer.
All are welcome, see you August 6!

Post office will be closed today Thursday July 14. I went into town today and got x-rayed so no broken bones. Need tomorrow to recoup and I will be in Friday and Saturday. Sunday will be closed but Adrian and I will be playing catch up on the sorting.
A word about parcels.
I have tried to be accommodating and to be honest it is getting out of hand. Moving forward If you do not have a tag issued by Adrian or myself you do not have a parcel. I do not care what Amazon, Canada Post, DHL has emailed you. Check your box if there is a tag there I will have a parcel for you. When you get an email one of two things can happen, it is still in Chemainus, or I haven't scanned it into the system. Name searches under the new system will only work if I know the EXACT name it was sent to. I had one where we tried the last name, no luck, The first and last name, no luck then on a whim we put in the middle initial and up it came. And no, I am not going to do this unless you have lost the tag or don't have a tracking number. If you bring me a copy of the tracking number from the email, I can use that and have no problem with this. Showing up and asking if there are any parcels without a tag or tracking number the answer will be no. It is just too time consuming to 'dumpster dive'.
I am not trying to be a hard ass here but I want the system to run smoothly and the people who come in with tags should not have to put up with people insisting they have a parcel because of an email message and insist I look for it.
See you on Friday but would recommend Saturday for parcel pick up as I will be scanning like a madman on Friday to catch up.

Thank you to the ham operators who stepped up during the Rogers communication system outage last week . They monitored the ARCTIC net frequency on Thetis in case there was emergency traffic (emergency messages) needing to be passed along.
For more information about the dedicated group of ham operators on our island, check out their website at http://www.thetisisland.net/arctic.html

Hey there fellow islanders... I'm curious about your internet service, and if anyone has updates on the good work that was being done in the past to improve service to our community!
For us, our internet service has gone from poor to worse over the last few months, and TELUS seems generally unconcerned and not very helpful.
I would love to hear from anyone that might have updates, or if there is interest and energy to put together a campaign, or reboot a working group to get some more action. I'm interested in being involved.
Let's help each other to make this better!
