FireSmart & BBQ Lunch - Saturday 11 am - 1 pm

Fire season is around the corner. Are you prepared? Like to eat while you learn?  

On Saturday come to Forbes Hall for a discussion with Captain Mitchell Sherrin from Salt Spring Fire and Rescue on how to minimize the impact to our local ecology and create fire protection for our homes. 

Following the talk will be a BBQ lunch (burgers, chips and a drink).  Door prizes!

Notice to Prawn Lovers

For those islanders who like to dine on this local delicacy but do not have access to boats, traps and/or expertise, a temporary solution is at hand.

For the next month or so, a First Nations harvest operation will be located daily (week days) at the Salish Sea Market. $15/pound and they accept cash or credit cards.

Disease Alert: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza

The CFIA has released important information regarding the continuing avian influenza outbreak in Canada, which poses a risk not only to poultry producers, but also to small flock, pet birds and wild birds.

The BC Ministry of Agriculture & Food has released its own update, providing BC-specific information, including notification of restrictions on movement of birds within the province.

Taking down bird feeders (including those for hummingbirds) and emptying bird baths in order to prevent congregation of wild birds may be helpful in reducing transmission of Avian Influenza.
