Goosey Gander Shop

Happy BC Day Everyone!

The Goosey Gander Shop will be open both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4 pm both days, so if you get busy with the Book & Bake Sale remember the Shop is open on Sundays too.

It is always a delight to see what comes into the Shop. This week was especially fun because not only did batches of amazing jewelry arrive ranging from fine and delicate to clunky and funky, but a mint condition Rawlings baseball glove came in, along with a magic fishing pole used by the ‘Codfather’ Dale Burkholder.

We also received many intricate assembled three-dimensional puzzles that are clocks and music boxes with moveable parts, and some very beautiful Thetis Island handcrafted seashell art pieces. Lots of other cool items are in the shop too from large to small, like a brand-new badminton set, some Christmas goodies, an ice cream maker, a purple pillowcase, and there’s even a little puppy in a basket!

Have a wonderful long weekend and come by and have a look if you can.

Thank you,

Nan Beals

Weather Forcast

SYNOPSIS: Hot and dry conditions continue with changes beginning toward cooling temperatures today (Thursday), a rise in minimum RH values and winds continue to be moderate. There is a risk of thunderstorms through a good portion of CoFC this afternoon and evening. It’s expected any lightning will be on the dry side and very little rain will be produced. Friday will see mostly seasonal temperatures. A risk of thunderstorms remains for tomorrow with most activity expected east of the Coastal Fire Centre.

OUTLOOK: Saturday to Monday: Unstable conditions continue into the weekend,
along with a downturn in fire behaviour. Temperatures will be seasonal for most of the fire
centre and minimum RH values continue to recover. The eastern side of the Pemberton and Fraser fire zones remain the direst spots but improve from where they have been. It looks to be quiet storm wise through the weekend. Winds take a small uptick in gusts into Sunday with 30-40 km/h gusts expected. As the low from the Pacific continues to push inland showers and rain are expected in the northern zones late Monday.

For the most up to date information on fire incidents, visit the BC Wildfire Dashboard

Smaller, human-caused bush fires continue to plague many of the Cowichan Valley fire departments daily and a quick response by the local departments with mutual aid is usually able to keep these fires from escalating to the Provincial response. Those fires are not included on the BC Wildfire Dashboard

Thetis Island continues, along with the South and Mid-Island Zone to be in EXTREME fire danger class rating. Please take advantage of our Fire Smart Home Preparedness Plan and contact Stu Downey at firesmartthetisisland@gmail.com for more information or a FireSmart Wildfire Exposure Assessment for your property.
