Weather Update

Outdoor Fires, including solid fuel campfires, are banned by the Province until October 31st. (Propane campfire appliances are allowed with no permit required.)

Thetis Island moved up to HIGH Danger Class rating yesterday (Thursday).
No High Hazard Activities after 1 pm today (Friday) until further notice, and a 2-hour fire watch must be posted following work stoppage.

We may go up to EXTREME very quickly so check the board by the ferry, eSPOKES, and the website (info further below) for updates.

Weather Forecast (as of 5pm Thursday; see website for current info)

SYNOPSIS:

Most of the Coastal Fire Centre will remain hot and dry with relative humidity trending down. A strong ridge of high pressure has been building over the fire centre since Thursday. Inland temperatures are expected to increase to the low to mid-30s through the weekend. Vancouver Island will see clear and dry weather with light northerly outflow winds and no lightning expected through Saturday.

OUTLOOK:

The high-pressure ridge is forecast to persist through Sunday and Monday, maintaining hot and dry conditions with inland highs in the low to mid-30s and generally poor to fair overnight recoveries. A risk of dry lightning is expected to develop over the Cascades and Coast Mountains by Monday.

TIVFD Website Update

The TIVFD now has a volunteer Interim website administrator for https://www.thetisislandfire.ca.

The site has been updated for Fire Danger Class notices etc. and you can refer to it for daily information.

There will be changes in the permit process for next year and other site updating soon. We are hopefully confident that this new administrator will enjoy it so much, they will stay on permanently.

Thank you for your past patience when you accessed our website and found the information not current.

TAP Forms & Ferry Lines

This is a reminder that TAP forms do NOT give you permission to jump the queue and go to the front of the ferry line. TAP forms are merely a form to prevent you from having to pay the ferry fare when going to and from medical appointments.

If there is an emergency, please call 911 and the First Responders will assist you.

If your family member is going off on the ambulance boat, then the fire department will assist you in getting the next ferry to Chemainus.

Thank you,

Forbes Hall Health Services Group

Nature House: What’s On Tomorrow

Coming up this Saturday, August 23: 1:00-3:00 PM

Location: Telegraph Harbour Marina

This week, we will be investigating algae in all its fascinating forms, colours, and shapes. Did you know that seaweed is a type of macroalgae?

These photosynthetic organisms are crucial for all other aquatic life in the Seaquarium and produce nearly half of the world's oxygen!

We will explore why some algae are bioluminescent and how some have existed for nearly 2 billion years.

Come and join us to uncover the mysteries of this long-overlooked phototroph.
