ThINC Nature House Programming this Summer!

Hello Thetis Islanders and visitors! 

ThINC will be running nature education and sustainability programs at the Nature House once again this summer!

Each Friday and Saturday, starting July 2nd, we will be offering short (1-3 hr) programs for COVID-friendly family groups, households, or 'bubbles' (a small network of trusted relatives/friends with whom you interact). Registration for each time slot will be required a week ahead of time so that we can plan age-appropriate activities and content. Participation will be by a suggested donation or included with a Friends of the Nature House membership:

We've been working on some farm made staples and invite you to come by for a taste test!

Salad Dressing - You like Yeshi, and so do we, but we'd like to start a refill program with our own recipe, using organic ingredients and without shelf stabilizers (as we can make it fresh).Come try our Jolly B Good Sauce (super high in all the B vitamins) and give us your feedback.

Coconut Banana Granola - If you love clustered, crunchy granola that almost eats like a snack, then you'll love our farm favourite breakfast super food. Dehydrated low & slow to preserve nutrients and packed with hemp & chia seeds, sprouted buckwheat groats, and fruit juice sweetened cranberries. Low in sugar, big in taste!

Solstice Day Clean Up at St. Margaret’s Cemetery

A reminder that St. Margaret's Cemetery is inviting friends and family to come and clean up the grave markers of those who have been buried at St. Margaret’s Cemetery. 

All you need to bring is some water, soap, a rag, and a trowel.  Bring refreshments as you are welcome to stay and enjoy some time extra at the cemetery. 

We will be there from 10AM to 3PM Saturday June 19.

Bees

It is swarm season for honeybees.  The bees make a new queen and leave with her from the hive to start a new colony elsewhere.  As beekeepers we try to mitigate this by monitoring population growth and space, but we are not always successful as bees tend to do what they need to do to survive. 
Upon inspection today it was pretty obvious the girls moved house as the population was half of what it was a couple of weeks ago.
So there could be a cluster of about 10,000 bees hanging on a branch somewhere on your property! There is no need to bee alarmed - they are not aggressive and won’t harm anyone unless they are disturbed.  If you see a swarm please call me and I can retrieve them.
