Plant, Rock, and Pots Request for the People’s Apothecary

Hello Islanders,

The ThINCpod would like to place a call for plants, rocks, and pots!

Our exciting People’s Apothecary project, located at Carolyn Askew’s kindly donated garden near the North Cove/Pilkey Point junction, is moving into its next phase this month.

Once the weather is cooler and kinder on our leafy friends, we will begin the planting of our medicinals!

Given that it is a People’s Apothecary, we would love to source as many of our plants locally as possible and make this project a true community collaboration.

We are looking to obtain seeds/cuttings for the following:

Lavender

Mint

Rosemary

Plantain

Self-heal (aka All-heal)

Lemon balm

Borage

Sage

Mullein

Comfry

Motherwort

Mugwort

Figwort

Skullcap

Yarrow

Valerian

Elderberry

Sweet woodruff

Common bearberry

Chicory

Goldenrod

Pearly everlasting

Coltsfoot

Black Hawthorn

Thyme

Oregano

Bee balm

Calendula

Queen Anne’s Lace

Bay tree

Bunchberry

Rock rose

Labrador Tea

Willow

St. John’s Wort

Anise hissup

Canadian buffaloberry

Lamb’s quarters

Hollyhock

Hibiscus (Rose Mallow)

Please contact us at cfesnoux@gmail.com if you would like to donate. If you have any seeds/cuttings of a plant known to have medicinal properties that is not on the above list, feel free to check with us about whether it would be a good fit for the project.

In addition, we are also looking for larger clay/ceramic pots to help rein in the more aggressive herbs (e.g. mint and lemon balm!) and rocks to line the path.  So if anyone has pots they would like to donate and/or an abundance of ~ fist-sized stones that they would like taken off their hands, please get in touch. We are happy to swing by and pick them up, or you can leave them by the yellow flag marker just in front of the Apothecary, located on the side of the North Cove Rd at Lot #62, just past the old white heritage house and before Carolyn’s.

Thank you all—stay tuned for news on a possible garden tour in October!

Sincerely,

The ThINCpod Team

Back to School

This week our Thetis school children will be starting the new school year.

This means from 8 am to 5 pm the North Cove Road school zone speed limit is in force on school days.

Please remember it is 30 km/hr.

Beyond the school zone watch for children walking or bicycling to and from school and keep them safe by slowing down.

Thanks.
