Weekend Fire Weather Forecast

OUTLOOK (Friday - Sunday):

An incoming upper trough on Friday pushes a system through northern regions of the Fire Centre, with the south finding sunnier and drier conditions for one more day. This system is expected to have a front associated with it, which may impact more southern areas of the Fire Centre later in the day with some patchy instability and increasing winds.

Saturday the upper trough forms into an upper low that tracks through northern regions of the province then southeastward, pushing the upper flow more northwesterly and bringing the potential for more patchy instability but easing winds.

Sunday sees the next incoming system impact northern regions of the Fire Centre, with the potential for showers to spread southward moving into the overnight period. Increasing winds are likely. While temperatures are expected to be not too far off the seasonal mark throughout this period, humidity will vary dependent upon the location of any instability, winds, etc.

Slow Down

Please SLOW DOWN ON OUR ROADS!

Around that blind corner or over that little hill you will find children, horses, baby strollers, visitors, walkers, dogs, deer, ponies, cats, joggers, cyclists and other speeding drivers over the center line.

Day or night, sun or rain.  T

he maximum speed on the island is 50 km/h.

That’s for the straight stretches with good forward visibility.  The rest of our windy, narrow roads with little or no shoulders deserve a slower, more cautious rate of travel.

If you arent’t in a big red truck with lights and sirens, you really don’t need to put others at risk for that extra 20 seconds you think you are saving.  The number of “near misses” on our roads is rising.

The First Responders don’t want to meet you or your victims by accident.

Courtenay COVID Exposure

Island Health will provide updates on the locations and times of known possible exposures to COVID-19 to the public in our region when we have been unable to reach or identify all individuals potentially exposed via contact tracing. A close contact exposure means face-to-face contact for an extended period of time while a person is infectious.

If you have been in one of these locations at times of possible exposure, it does not mean you will develop COVID-19. The possible exposures listed on this site are believed to be low risk but, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that anyone who may have visited any of the locations listed on the specified dates and times to monitor themselves for symptoms.

Location Address Date Time Il Falcone Restaurant536 6th Street Courtenay, B.C.August 16, 20203:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
