Thetis Island Improvement District AGM, Saturday August 22nd, 2020
Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 5:16PM A reminder that the Thetis Island Improvement District will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday August 22nd, 2020 at the Fire Hall beginning at 11:00 AM
This public meeting is to report on the 2019 operations of the Fire Department, the Improvement District, and whatever other items of business may be raised.
We will follow Provincial guidelines for social distancing and hygiene:
- The fire engines will be staged on Mission Road for operational readiness.
- Chairs will be spaced a minimum of 2 metres apart in the truck bays and outside on the apron NOT the drill room.
- We would really appreciate it if you could RSVP to Anne-Marie Koeppen at: gotoannemarie@hotmail.com by Thursday August 20th if you plan to attend so we can prepare adequately.
- No paper copies of the Financial Statements will be available. Please go to: http://www.thetisislandfire.ca/tiid-financial.html to review and/or print copies of those documents as you wish.
- Attendees are encouraged to wear a non-medical mask or face covering.
- Hand sanitizing stations will be set up.
- Appropriate hall surfaces will be sanitized before and after the meeting.
Any questions please contact one of the trustees or staff. I will post the agenda and any other announcements on eSPOKES later on in the week.
Thank you…

Drone Safety
Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 9:53AM Drone pilots: if you unfortunately crash your drone out of your sight line in the woods and before you can recover it you see smoke, please don’t hesitate calling 911 immediately.
Lithium polymer batteries in drones have been known to ignite on hard impact.
We would want to get to a bush fire as soon as possible.

Improvement District Trustees Election
Friday, August 14, 2020 at 9:01PM Good morning.
I would like to acknowledge that this year's trustees election is far from normal for our community and seems to be happening on short notice. The first notice of a possible election was on eSPOKES, Thursday July 30th. As per July 30 posting regarding voting protocols. I do appreciate that some Islanders are unable to change plans in order to participate in the election. During our deliberations and planning with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing we were strongly encouraged to separate the AGM and the Trustees election.
Drive-By Poll
The TIVFD will be providing traffic control!
Please come by car to the Fire Hall to cast your TIID Trustee election ballot between 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
Please bring your own pen.
Drive up to receive a ballot.
Please choose 2 out of 3 candidates indicated on the election ballot.
Have your name checked off and then drop your ballot in the ballot box.
Then drive to the end of the road, turn around, and drive out again.
For those Thetis Island property owners that are eligible to vote and not on the list, a Statutory Declaration form will be provided.
Voter Eligibility:
Persons entitled to vote at an Improvement District election must meet all of the following requirements:
• A Canadian citizen.
• Over eighteen years of age.
• On title as an owner of land in the Improvement District.
• A resident of the Province of BC for the prior six months, or legal representative of an owner of land in the Improvement District who has died, become insolvent or insane.
To stagger traffic and prevent significant lines, try to arrive between the times below based on your last name:
•A – G between 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
•H – O between 11:00 AM - 12:00 NOON
•P – Z between 12:00 NOON - 1:00 PM
If the above time really doesn’t work for you or you have multiple people, just come when it works best.
Safe hygiene procedures will be followed throughout the election process

Saturday Trustee Vote
Friday, August 14, 2020 at 8:10PM The Thetis Island Improvement District operates and maintains the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department by way of an administrative Board of Trustees.
The BC Provincial Government Handbook for Improvement Districts states:
“Trustees must make decisions to ensure that adequate funds are available to maintain a current operation and to replace capital infrastructure as it ages. Equally important is maintaining an effective organization to operate and administer the improvement district’s services..“.
Please take this important opportunity to vote at the Saturday drive-thru poll by the Firehall for the two open Trustee positions.
The TIVFD will be conducting traffic control on Mission Road Saturday morning to make the drive-thru event as efficient and safe as possible.
Fire Chief J. Caldbeck
