ABOUT THE TEACHERS
A note from Dawn
I am thrilled to be part of a group of teachers who are going to re-establish a yoga practice here on the island. Brianna and Ryan have graciously invited us to use their property to teach yoga for the summer.
My name is Dawn for those who are new to the island and perhaps haven’t met me as I have been in deep healing in my own home and space for the past 3 years, since a car accident re-injured my back and caused me to close down my healing practice.
I have been teaching yoga for 10 years. The yoga I teach is very gentle, and it has transformed over the years to a form of yoga that is invitational and exploratory. I am going to use the chakras system to focus each week of a 9-week series. When I began teaching Den Kelsey joined our class at 90 – he was deeply inspiring for me. He always wondered why there weren’t more men in the class and he found so much joy and relaxation when he was complete. So no matter how stiff you might feel, this is an amazing system to restore vitality to our physical and emotional bodies.
My classes start on Thursday, June 25 and will run weekly from 9:30 am - 10:45 am. If you would like a one on one consultation to determine your needs or to give you ideas prior to class, or if you just want to talk with me you can reach me at 250-210-0826 or dawn_gordon@telus.net.
Thank you,
Dawn
About Brianna
Brianna's love of yoga was sparked as a teenager on an adventure to India and has grown and evolved as she has learned from gurus, students, fellow instructors and her personal practice. She studied yoga on a subsequent trip to India and has been teaching Hatha classes for 12 years.
During one of Brianna's classes you can expect a mix of active strengthening sequences to energize the body as well as rejuvenating and relaxing poses. Every class is tailored to suit the group's needs and experience levels and all are welcome (modifications will always be provided)! Brianna’s classes start Monday, June 15, 6 pm - 7:15 pm.
Thanks again! Looking forward to building community with you!
Brianna

Friday, June 12, 2020 at 10:37AM SYNOPSIS: (Wed-Thurs) The air mass grows quite unstable late this afternoon mostly along the mainland coast but also possibly over southern Vancouver Island and possibly later in the evening out along the Fraser Valley. There is a fair chance of a few thunderstorms but almost certainly coming with considerable shower activity. Further north, the next low-pressure centre is diving towards Haida Gwaii and will begin drifting down the coast Thursday. The wet pattern continues with a few more showers and little sign of warming.
OUTLOOK: (Friday-Sunday) The upper low parks just off Vancouver Island by Friday afternoon and then continues moving southeast to lie over Vancouver Island for the weekend. Cloud and showers continue.

https://www.islandhealth.ca/news/news-releases/new-lifeguard-app-launched-help-prevent-overdoses
"To help save more lives and ensure people who use drugs alone have access to the supports they need, the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA)(link is external), in partnership with regional health authorities and Lifeguard Digital Health(link is external), is launching a new made-in-B.C. resource called the Lifeguard App.
The app is another tool in the province’s tool box to ensure a comprehensive response to the overdose crisis in British Columbia."
"Lifeguard App is to help you connect with an emergency contact number in case of overdose of the drug. The app is activated by the user before they take their dose. After 50 seconds the app sounds an alarm, and if the user doesn’t hit a button to stop the alarm, indicating they are fine, the alarm grows louder. After 75 seconds the app alerts emergency medical dispatchers of a potential overdose. The app tells the current location of the drug user to the emergency contact person."

Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 10:14PM Thetis Island Community Association
It’s been another good week for the Forbes Hall expansion project. The Assembly Hall has a roof and is sheathed and covered, with metal roofing coming in the near future! Timbers now grace the entryway in an elegant and exciting welcome. The wall was installed today at the driveway end of the new hall. Its height is inspiring. Over the past couple of months an extremely hard-working, expert crew has created a beautiful space for our community’s future.
This week decisions were made regarding the overall look of the new Hall. Siding will be a mix of surfaces that create interest, while keeping it suitable to its location and environment. The truss package for the entry side roof will be arriving soon and will reshape the original hall into its new version. Once all of these puzzle pieces are in place the exterior roof, siding and colour package will be revealed to the community.
As the crew is extremely busy and committed to a well-built project, we request that people refrain from “dropping in” talking to the workers, asking questions, and, unfortunately, creating distraction. It is important to observe that this is an active worksite and crews are working in difficult and often dangerous situations. Please stay behind the provided fencing and well away from the site on those sides without fencing. No vehicles, except those of people who are working on site, are allowed. Any questions or suggestions regarding the project must be directed to Doug Darling at 250-210-4042, and he will confer with Michel at an appropriate time.
If you want to see what’s happening on site just give any of the Project Management Team a call: Carolyn Askew, Ron Bannister, Doug Darling, or Ann Dickie. They are willing (and excited) to facilitate brief tours for up to 4 people at a time as requested. Please remember that no one is allowed on site without Michel Poirier or any of those named above present.
Several volunteers have signed up for site clean up, turning up at end of day to tidy and sweep the project, readying it for the next day. We thank all of you for both your commitment and your contribution! Those wanting to add their name to the volunteer call-out list should contact Volunteer Coordinator Greg Gall directly at gnp.gall@gmail.com. To date, 16 volunteers have contributed 292.5 hours of volunteer work to the Project.
Remember that as much as we appreciate the help, that no volunteer “Drop In’s” are allowed.
Once again, a big thank-you to all the PCH crew and the volunteers for your tremendous work, and know that your cheerful smiles and dedication are much appreciated!
