Open Burning Season November 1st

Hello everyone,

A friendly reminder that open burning season begins November 1. Residents may begin burning yard waste and other permitted materials in accordance with local and provincial regulations.

Before you burn, please check the current Ventilation Index to ensure conditions are suitable for smoke dispersion. You can view the interactive map here:

https://governmentofbc.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html

If you have questions about the burning process, what materials are allowed, or local guidelines, please visit https://thetisislandfire.ca for more information.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe and our air clean this fall!

Stay safe,

Thetis Island Fire Department

Lawrence Valley Loop Trail – Update

Further to the Lawrence Valley Loop Trail notice in eSPOKES on September 29, TIRRA has been working with property owners and reviewing trail usage requirements.

TIRRA is currently working on appropriate signage to reflect the usage of this trail and, if necessary, the section of trail crossing the meadow.

Trail users are reminded that all trails can become hazardous during the rainy and winter seasons. Please exercise caution and due diligence.

Trail closures or sectional closures, if required, will be posted on the trail(s). As with all public trails, the trails on Thetis are "Recreational Trails; Use at Own Risk".

New Batch Organic Chicken for Sale

Our friends at Tamarack Farm in Chemainus, have another batch of organic, pasture-raised chickens for available.

If you missed the last opportunity back in August, here are the details:

Large, white feathered Cobb chickens raised in Suskovich mobile tractors. They are fed 100% organic grain and are 100% medication and antibiotic free.

They are typically bigger with weights of approx. 4.5 lbs up to 6 lbs. Due to the increase in organic feed costs and transportation the price is now $9/lb.

Let us know how many you'd like for your freezer this winter and we'll organize a couple of delivery and pick up dates at the farm.

Soup’s On: Wednesday, October 29

11:30 am until 1:00 pm
Gather at Forbes Hall for a very Thetis Island lunch...

Menu:

Cabbage Roll Soup

Vegetarian Cabbage Roll Soup

Crusty Dinner Buns

Misc. Treats

Coffee & Teas

Suggested donation of $7 for soup, bread, treats and teas & coffee.

Soup’s On is entirely carried out by volunteers and, as one of the tasks is the program’s accounting, please do not pay with coins smaller than loonies and toonies. All change must be counted and rolled, and it’s work that we would like to do less of.

For those who find large groups challenging, enjoy your lunch in this week’s designated quiet room, the Library.

Everyone is welcome to join us, seniors, seniors who don’t think they’re seniors, workers, families, and everyone who just wants a mid-day meal!

Menu remainders for take-out when available. Soup’s On also supports the Thetis Island Food Pantry.

Coupon Booklets of 10 for your convenience, $70.00

In addition, the Nurse Practitioner’s Clinic will not be open on Tuesday, November 18th. Kari Quinney will still be available, by phone, to book appointments.

Thank you for your understanding.
