Friday, July 18, 2025 at 12:26PM Wondering there's a dog groomer on the island taking clients.
We have a 65lb Bernadoodle needing a quarterly shave down. Or if anyone has a local (ish) groomer they love and would recommend please text me at 250-580-0190
Thanks

Friday, July 18, 2025 at 12:19PM We are in EXTREME Fire Danger Class. On the Wildfire Maps we are now in RED. No outdoor fires permitted (except for propane appliances).
SYNOPSIS: A ridge of high-pressure continues to be anchored offshore in the Pacific and will stay there for the next several days. We continue to see a SW flow over the Coastal Fire Centre with a slight increase in winds Friday afternoon. Temperatures will continue to be above seasonal for most of CoFC with many spots in the south into the 30s. With those hotter temperatures minimum RH values will be in the 20-30% range for those southern areas. Low pressure will run along the eastern edge of the ridge of high pressure keeping any precipitation east of CoFC. There is some potential for weak thunderstorms to move into the Pemberton zone Friday afternoon, any lightning will be wet.
OUTLOOK: Saturday to Monday: The current pattern holds steady into and through the weekend. A SW flow overall continues with a return to seasonal temperatures which will continue into next week. This temperature drop will also give the fire centre an increase in minimum RH. Winds will be light to moderate through the weekend. It continues to be mostly dry, with a chance of some thunderstorms or just rain developing along the eastern edge of CoFC Saturday thru Monday. If these turn out to be storms, it’s expected to produce wet lightning. It’s more likely it will just be some light showers with minimal accumulation.

Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10:18AM Help Us Count Sea Stars! Volunteer for the Annual Clam Bay Count - July 24
It’s almost that time of year again! Join us on Thursday, July 24th at 9:45 AM for our Annual Purple Sea Star Count at Clam Bay.
Last year, with your help, we counted over 1,600 purple sea stars - and we're hoping to match (or beat!) that number again this year. This fun and meaningful event supports our ongoing monitoring of sea star populations, contributing to our understanding of local marine health.
What’s Involved:
After a short prep-session at the Lamb residence (120 Clam Bay Road), volunteers will split into groups, each responsible for one “finger” of the shoreline. Your mission? Peer into the rocky crevices and count how many purple sea stars are hiding!
What to Bring & Wear:
- Sensible footwear with good grip (it will be wet and rocky!)
- Sun protection as needed- A flashlight or headlamp (for spotting stars in the shadows)
Parking: Along Clam Bay Road
RSVP: To help us organize groups and gear, please let us know if you’re coming by emailing amelia@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org
Thank you for supporting local marine monitoring. We hope to see you out there - headlamp, clipboard, and sea star spotting eyes at the ready!

Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10:16AM Our regular Thursday evening ping-pong sessions are cancelled ‘til September. We are looking forward to resuming them. It is an essential part of our physical, mental and social well-being. We are very grateful for the excellent facilities for this activity at Forbes Hall.

Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 8:13PM Greetings from Pioneer Pacific!
Our summer season is well underway over in North Cove! With all the usual play comes wear and tear on some of our equipment, and we are finding ourselves in need of a sewing machine for some sails on our sail boats! Is there anyone on Thetis island who has an older sewing machine that they no longer need, who would be willing to donate it to us? It is heavy duty sewing that we are hoping to do, so we don’t want to borrow, in the case that we wear it out!
Send me an email at agall@pioneercamp.ca if you have something that might work.
Thanks,
Andrea Gall
