808th Anniversary of the Charter of the Forest

November 7th is the 808th anniversary of the Charter of the Forest. Created in 1217 as a companion document to the Magna Carta, the Charter of the Forest asserted the rights of freemen to access the Kings Forests. Many of its provisions were in force centuries later.

In 2017 the Woodland Trust in Britain launched the Tree Charter. Built on input from thousands of people, it set out guiding principles for dealing with forest lands and resources.

I think a community forest charter is something we could use today. Find common ground that preserves essential forest lands while also recognizing that forests provide necessary wood resources and jobs.

Halloween Thanks!

Thanks to all that participated in Halloween at the Hall.
There were over 60 islanders that came out in costumes and community spirit making the evening a wonderful success.

Special thanks to all those that helped with decorating, contributing to the trick or treat line, carving pumpkins, setting up/cleaning up, running the bar, and bringing snacks to share. Yet another example of how generous and awesome our island community is!

A big thank you to TICA for use of the hall.

Looking forward to more community gatherings at the hall throughout the rainy months ahead.

Needed: Pick Up from Tall Tree

Anyone headed to Tall Tree in Chemainus with a pickup truck in the next few days?

I have a small bundle of metal siding flashings. 10' long, but not too heavy.

Thanks,

Need Ride to Nanaimo ASAP - Engine Emergency

Hello Friends.

I was wondering if anyone is going to Nanaimo. I need to take my 6hp 4 stroke engine to Dreamers Marine for them to take a look at under warranty as I’m having engine issues and need to get it looked at ASAP so I can move my sailboat back to Thetis island.

I will have to go to my sailboat at Kinsmen beach in Chemainus and unlock my engine and take it off my sailboat.

Please send me a msg or call or text 250-436-1006

Thanks,

Jasmine

Chrysler Jeep Battery Fire Recall

More than 375,000 Jeep plug-in hybrids are being recalled over a battery fire risk, including nearly 21,000 vehicles in Canada.

The Canadian recall impacts Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid models from 2022 to 2025 and Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrids from 2021 to 2025

The batteries were manufactured by Samsung SDI America, based in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Owners of the vehicles — which include certain Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles with model years between 2020-2025 and some Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs with model years from 2022-2026 — are being advised to park the vehicles outside and away from structures until a remedy for the problem is determined.

Vehicle owners should also avoid charging the vehicles because the risk is reduced when the battery is depleted, according to the company.

The number for the recall is 68C and owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Owners can also check Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database.

Menu:
Chicken Noodle Soup
Vegetable Noodle Soup
Cheesy Biscuits
Assorted Treats
Coffee & Teas

Suggested donation of $7 for soup, bread, treats and teas & coffee.

Soup’s On is entirely carried out by volunteers and, as one of the tasks is the program’s accounting, please do not pay with coins smaller than Loonies and Toonies. All change must be counted and rolled, and it’s work that we would like to do less of.

For those who find large groups challenging, enjoy your lunch in this week’s designated quiet room, the Boardroom.

Everyone is welcome to join us, seniors, seniors who don’t think they’re seniors, workers, families, and everyone who just wants a mid-day meal!

Menu remainders for take-out when available. Soup’s On also supports the Thetis Island Food Pantry.

Coupon Booklets of 10 for your convenience, $70.00
