Fire Season has Started

Gardeners already know how dry it is on Thetis when digging in their vegetable starts. And last week, just after the local drizzle, we had a small, early morning bush fire ignited by a downed power line.  Monday afternoon three fire halls and the Cobble Hill forestry crew with the water-bucketing helicopter actioned a large bush fire in Maple Bay at Stoney Hill Regional Park.  All of this points to an early start to fire season.  

Please be very careful with yard waste fires - use a lot of water to extinguish them so that they don't "go to ground" and ignite from underground embers in the coming weeks.

Succulents Needed for School Garden

We are planting a succulent garden at the school and we are looking for donations of succulents. They do not have to be in pots. A cardboard box with succulents and a bit of soil will be fine. 

You can drop them off at the school on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

Thetis Island Improvement District 2020 Financial Statements

At a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Thetis Island Improvement District on May 4th the consolidated financial statements for the year ending December 31st, 2020, were approved. The entire audit package is now up on the TIID site at: http://www.thetisislandfire.ca/tiid-financial.html

Highlights of the audit are:

• Maintenance, Operations and Administration were under budget by: $23,180.
• Capital Projects were under budget by: $5,718
• The Capital Works (savings) Account increased by $63,202 to $289,834.

More information on trustee elections and our Annual General Meeting to follow in the next few weeks.
