Cancellation of March 15th Forbes Hall Expansion Public Meeting

Due to the close quarters, and unsuitability of the venue for social distancing, the TICA Board & FH EX Committee regretfully have cancelled the information meeting planned at the Portal for 1:30PM on Sunday, March 15th.

An information bulletin will be sent out by Tuesday, March 17th.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but feel that in the current Covid-19 pandemic it is important to heed professional advice not to meet in large numbers in close spaces.

TIID Wins Grant for TIVFD

The Thetis Island Improvement District has successfully applied for a $25,000 grant for the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department to buy equipment for protection of key structures in the event of wildfire.  

The grant is from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Community Emergencies Preparedness Fund, and $25,000 is the maximum grant available to individual departments.

Fire Chief Jeannine Caldbeck alerted the TIID board to the availability of this grant, and worked with Trustee Shelford to prepare our submission.

WETT Woodstove Inspection

We have Brian Cyr from H&B Chimney Sweep coming to the island on Tuesday Mar 7 to undertake a woodstove inspection for insurance purposes.  If you need one call him at 250-746-4994 and reduce your cost by sharing his travel costs with us.

The Industrialization of Preedy Harbour - petition update

Dear friends and neighbours,

Thank you to everyone for your overwhelming show of support.

The effort to collect signatures for the petition have gone tremendously well. 

We are waiting to get a few more forms back in and aiming to send in the petition early next week. Monday or Tuesday.

If you have yet to sign or still need to deliver your signed petition form please do so at the Capernwray Harbour office today (Friday) or Monday morning latest.

We will be doing a signature count when all forms are in prior to sending.

We will keep a copy of the signatures to present to Islands Trust for the yet to be announced upcoming meeting.

I do hope everyone will attend :)
