Thank You Meadow Valley Strata!

Thank you, Meadow Valley Strata property owners for allowing the Thetis Island public to traverse your private road during the Hydro Lines Down emergency overnight on Pilkey Point Road.

Thetis residents do understand that as owners, you must pay for your gravel road upkeep and that vehicle speeds must be kept to a minimum for safety and road maintenance.

Thank you for opening the gate to allow drivers to get home and also to get to the ferry in the morning.

Webcam, TICA or TIRRA?

At Saturday’s TIRRA (Thetis Island Residents and Ratepayers Association) AGM there was some confusion regarding funding for the Ferry Webcam. To clarify, here is some background information.

TICA (Thetis Island Community Association) has provided funding over the years for the webcam and upgrades, with the revenue from the advertisements on the webcam site being a fundraising initiative for TICA.

None of this would be possible without the consent of Capernwray to have the webcam on their property, and Tim French, Veronica Shelford and others for their technical support over the years. The convenience and service the webcam provides is very valuable to the Thetis community.

An upgrade to the webcam was completed in early 2024 and the invoice was paid by TIRRA, with TICA being unaware of either the invoice or payment. With this information now being shared, TICA will pay for the upgrade.

To access the webcam, go to https://www.thetisisland.net/ferry/index.html

With thanks,

St. Margaret's Cemetery Spring Cleanup

Saturday, May 31, 10am-3pm

I participate in a number of activities on the Thetis, and I find the cemetery cleanup to be one of the more rewarding events. While I have no personal connections to anyone in the cemetery, they are part of our island heritage.

The cemetery is a vault of island history and is the permanent home for many of our forebears. From early settlers and the unmarked graves to recent burials, they carry a history of our island, and it is important to once a year pay tribute as a community to their lives.

From tidying up headstones, to general landscaping, there will be a range of projects to suit everyone's interests and abilities.

Please plan to come by and join us--we encourage everyone to join.

If possible, please bring small garden tools for general landscaping and/or scrub brushes and water pails to clean grave markers. We would encourage you to contribute to the picnic lunch, where we will remember and celebrate the lives that came before us.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank You: Clean-up Volunteers @ Forbes Hall

Thanks to the volunteers who turned up Saturday morning to help get Forbes Hall ready for the June 14th party and the upcoming summer season of events. The sun shone as they got to their tasks with lots of energy, chatting and laughter.

24 people made the windows shine, dusted off the screens, pulled thousands of weeds, tidied up the gardens, dusted books, sorted drawers, pressure-washed the patios, cleaned out the gutters, swept out the basement, cleared off the roofs, and trimmed up the grounds and driveway areas. With the final sweeping of gravel off from the pavement and blow-off of the dust done, it looks fabulous!

A sincere thank you from the TICA Board
