UN Disarmament Week

In their Nobel-prize winning theory about what influences the mind to distort our perceptions of truth, psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky asked themselves why they slowed down in their car after passing a horrific accident on a highway? Their answer is that we overweight recent events that threaten us, while in fact the reality of their risk doesn’t change.

As time passes without incident, our estimate and attention to certain risks, such as nuclear war, becomes under-weighted. It has been 80 years since the last nuclear strikes. They killed 214,000 Japanese people.

There’s no greater fatal mistake than to think and behave as if nuclear war can’t happen. Or if it does, that it can be 'strategic' or 'limited' and we will survive its unimaginable devastation. It’s in fact inevitable and will start either by intention or mistake.

Humanity’s only hope is to disarm, a position supported by more than half of all countries in the world. October 24 to 30 is UN Disarmament Week.

There are more than 12,000 nuclear weapons on earth. They must be eliminated before they eliminate us.

Thetis Island could join the more than 1,000 cities and communities across the world that support the UN's Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Join Us for the Last PAG Drop-In Day & Our Annual Celebration!

We’re wrapping up another wonderful year in the People’s Apothecary Garden and would love for you to join us for our last drop-in day of the season – this Saturday, October 25th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.

Then, next Saturday, November 1st, we’ll gather for our Annual PAG Celebration from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Stop by for a cozy afternoon with cookies, hot apple cider, and a toasty fire, and connect with fellow islanders as we celebrate the garden and the community.

We hope to see you there!

Warmly,

The ThINC Team

Hello everyone,

We’re also looking for new board members! If you’re passionate about nature and community, we’d love to have you join our team.

Emergency Boat Tow Needed

Hello, Fellow Islanders,

I am stuck in a pickle. I can't seem to get my outboard engine to run properly so I was wondering if anyone could help get it back to Thetis ?

I don't want to pay for another night at the dock as I'm on disability and it’s using up my money for the month of November.

 Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can be reached at 250-436-1006

Thank you
Jasmine

Does anyone have a white or light-coloured bed sheet that you no longer need?

We are hoping to use one for a Halloween costume; thought I'd check here before heading to the thrift store.
