Thank You from SOAS

A Night on the Fringe was a great success, raising $3,800 for our projects in Tanzania.

Food at the potluck was marvellous, and the entertainment was outstanding.

Contributors to the silent auction were generous resulting in many valuable items being repossessed.

It was a pleasure to see the many well-behaved children .

A special shout out to the following volunteers whose efforts ensured the smooth operation: Eleanor, Michelle and Colleen in the kitchen, Tony and Ron with stage details and operation, Gurk and Anne-Marie at the beverage station, Michelle, Bing and Simone with setting up, Tricia with video and technical support. Many hands helped with the clean-up.

Thank you each and everyone. It is an honour to be part of such a caring and cooperative community.

Maureen and Wayne (for SOAS)

Reminder: Upcoming Influenza and COVID Vaccine Clinic: Thursday, November 21 at Forbes Hall

The upcoming influenza and COVID Vaccine Clinic is online now and can take appointments. Please use the invitation emailed to you by BC Health. Or, call 1 833 838 2323 to book your appointment.

You may only see Influenza as an option, this is due to the timing of the COVID vaccine clinic last May. Go ahead and book for Influenza, and you will be offered COVID at the Clinic, this has been confirmed by Island Health. Note if you call to book please ask to have the COVID vaccine as well. Either way you will be offered both vaccines if eligible on the day of the clinic.

COVID Vaccine types offered at Clinic: Island health is using two vaccines: Pfizer ComirnatyR Omicron KP.2 for those 12 years and older, and Moderna SpikevaxR KP.2 for those 6 months – 11 years of age. Depending on supply we should have both of these vaccines at the clinic.

Thetis Island Parents Association Fundraiser

Hello everyone,

On behalf of the Thetis Island Parents Association (TIPA) I’d like to thank everyone for their support for our Purdy’s fundraiser! So far, our portion of the proceeds comes to $78.38 and this will be used to support the kids educational needs.

If you’d like to participate it’s easy to sign up and works a lot like online shopping. You click the link, make an account with your email address, and choose what you’d like. The more we sell, the higher they set our margin. Right now, we are10% but if we sell $250 more, we’ll get 25% of sales back!

Fundraiser:

https://fundraising.purdys.com/1392088-122338

Digital catalog:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Im_b1mm8KRGCVWGEGTJs8NezuqLKP8Y4/view?usp=drivesdk

The ordering window will close on November 25, and orders will come to Thetis around December 11, then we will sort them, and you can pick up. I am also willing to deliver to meeting points between Victoria and Nanaimo.

We may be able to accommodate some add-on orders at the winter market too.

Thanks again for your support!

Ellen Hrad,

President, Thetis Island Parents Association

Latest Meat Order Update

Hello eFolks of eSpokes!

The most recent meat order has arrived at Telegraph Harbour. We got another great buy on the beef cheeks, I cooked some of these up last week and they were just immensely flavorful and silky.

We've also topped up the Heritage New York Striploin, and the grass-fed grass finished top sirloin.

New arrivals are a beef dinner sausage (slightly larger, and a different flavor profile than the smaller ones we have) and some chop House beef burgers identical to the ones we used for the community barbecue this year. Absolutely delicious.

We're running out of room in the meals to go freezer to display all the options, so if there's something mentioned here that interests you, but you don't see it in the freezer; ask! There is likely back stock in the walk-in freezer.

If anyone has special requests for the coming week, please let me know. We are hoping to get allocation for grass-fed grass finished beef liver, kidney, and heart. But supplies have been thin on the ground.

ThINC Help Needed

Subject: extra hands needed!

I'm looking for volunteers this Sunday, November 17th to help me prepare the people's apothecary garden for the winter!

There are two specific tasks that need doing:

1. Help load and unload one truck full of horse manure.

2. Drop off leaves at the PAG (lot 62 north cove road). If in bags, please drop off just inside the gate.

If you are able to help with either of these items, get in touch with me at charlotte@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org to discuss details!

Big thanks,

Charlotte, ThINC program coordinator.

The Christmas Market is getting closer! Are you about ready?

If you’re bringing a table, we will need it by 10:30 on Friday, November 29th so that we can be ready for everyone to set up.  If you’re unable to get it to the Hall at that time, let us know and we can pick it up.  Names will be on the tables and we will have chairs for vendors.

A few things to keep in mind to make your day go more smoothly:

  • Bring a cloth for your table.  Something plain will display your creations more clearly.
  • If you can display things at several levels (like a box under the cloth) it makes your table more interesting to look at.
  • Don’t put too much on the table - if the table is too cluttered, it’s hard to focus on individual items.
  • Feel free to publicize your creations.  We are proud of our artisans and want everyone to see the wonderful things they can make.
  • And don’t forget that float!

If you have any question, feel free to email us,
