Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 10:30AM Our cat, "Dudley", disappeared Tuesday Oct 8th from our home (on Pilkey Point Road between Clam Bay Road and Sunrise Point Road)
He's mostly orange with white belly & paws, and weighs just over 12 lbs. He's very friendly and has shown himself quite willing to walk over to a neighbour's house and invite himself in to explore, so we suspect someone may have though he was abandoned and taken him in.
If he's moved in with you or you have seen him in the past few days, please call us (250-984-3033) or email jthorn4242@gmail.com so we can retrieve him. We miss him.
Thanks, -- Virginia and Jonathan

Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 9:52PM After reading the annual fundraising campaign letter from the Community Fund, I was truly moved by the generosity, and community-mindedness of the Board members. The letter speaks of the important contributions and volunteerism of Islanders within our close-knit community, and recognizes the interconnection that our different societies share with one another in fulfilling community needs.
It is with great appreciation and respect that the Thetis Island Community Association thanks the Community Fund for their encouragement to Islanders to help with the funding of the Forbes Hall Project, which is at critical points in both construction and planning.
In gratitude,
Ron Bannister

Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 9:47PM Yes, Thetis Islanders there is a Christmas Bazaar this year, it is taking place on Saturday November 30th 10-2pm. The folks at "The Portal" have generously given us permission to hold this year's Christmas Bazaar at Heneage House. If you are interested in having a space at this year's Christmas Bazaar please contact either Gloria @250-246-3091 or email quackf@telus.net or Helen @ 250-246-2469 or sdirb@telus.net.
We ask vendors to let us know what you will be selling so we can have an idea what will be there. Either send a list or take photos of your merchandise and email to Gloria or Helen.
The folks that put on Soup's On will be there to serve you soup, bun, coffee, tea and treats all for the amazing cost of $5.00. There will also be coffee and baked goods available in the morning.
Come and be apart of a "Dickens Christmas" at Heneage House.
Thank you
Gloria Taylor

Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 9:46PM Hi, I am hoping to reach out to the Thetis community to create a video essay for a course I am taking as part of my masters program at SFU.
I am hoping to find resources or family memories that reflect on indigenous and/or settler perspectives about Thetis Island. I will likely include Penelakut history as well since they are so close.
Some questions I have to get started include: Did Indigenous peoples live on Thetis prior to when H.M.S. Thetis surveyed the land? What was the process of settlement on Thetis? Did Indigenous peoples live on Penelakut prior to it having the Kuper Island residential school? And if so, did local children go here or were they forced to other residential schools to separate them from families? What has the process been like to build the community and culture after the closure of the school.
How have people lived off of, and learned from the land & water? (Both islands)
I plan on visiting our family cabin on Thetis over Thanksgiving weekend if there are references on the island to look at.

Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 10:09PM Please contact Jerry Lealand at lealandcontracting@shaw.ca or Drop by the work-site during work hours at Forbes Hall 292 North Cove Road, and speak with Ron L. Contract Supervisor.

Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 10:07PM I am so sorry to have to communicate that there was a break in and theft at the Forbes Hall Construction Site over the weekend of October4-6.
The Construction Supervisor’s trailer was broken into, with a smashed window, and pried-open door. The mattress and bedding were exposed to the weather and got saturated with rain, as well as glass shards.
His personal belongings were gone through, a large jar of coins and several items taken, a cabinet door broken off, and many food-stuffs deliberately chosen and stolen from fridge and cabinets. Several items were found through the woods behind the trailer. The only other item out of place was a beer can thrown through one of the openings into the hall. A file has been opened with the RCMP.
This act of obvious vandalism is so out of character for Thetis Island. Please be aware of any suspect activity and if you notice or hear anything suspicious, please contact the Ladysmith RCMP.
Our apologies to a very hard-working man, who is employed to get our island’s community hall rebuilt, and ready for us to enjoy once again.
Ann Dickie
