Highlights of the ACThetis (Anchorage Concerns Thetis) meeting June 18, 2018, 7 pm, Forbes Hall.
Over past couple of months there has been increasing momentum between the various advocacy groups to establish an overarching alliance between the groups that will enhance/augment the direction, common voice, and strengthening of overall positioning.
ACT is developing petitions for our local MPs and MLAs to deliver to their respective chambers...Watch for it, discuss it with any ACThetis member (or email info@acthetis.com) and sign it to ensure our voices are heard.
ACT is pushing Islands Trust to find a way to use their existing Bylaws that prohibits commercial anchoring within 1000m of Thetis or Valdes Islands, as a tool to limit or stop anchorages in the Southern Gulf Islands.
ACT Information meeting at the Nature house July 25, 2018.
Please note that the next ACThetis meeting will be Aug 23th, 19:00h at Forbes Hall.

Visions 2018 is sponsoring their annual Art Studio Tour and Sale:
July 6,7 and 8 - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Find the brochure online here: visionsarttour.ca
One of the artists this year is our son, Christopher French, #19. Chris grew up on Thetis and now lives with his wife and two young children in Duncan. His love of life and nature shines through his artwork.
There will be an amazing variety of wonderful art available to view and buy throughout the Cowichan Valley during this free, self guided tour where you can meet the artists and artisans as you visit their studios.
Enjoy,
Sue French
We are working on the 2018/2019 season. To make it another successful
session we need more help and involvement from the community. Some of our
cooks and team members have fallen by the wayside or have moved away from Thetis Island. If you are interested in volunteering please plan to attend our start up meeting on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th, 9.30 am in Forbes Hall. Please mark your calendars now as this is an important time to get new information, select your preferred dates and team members.
We need cooks, team leaders and kitchen helpers. For every "Soup's On" event we must have a person in the kitchen who holds Food Safe 1 (or above) Certification to be responsible for making sure that all Food Safe protocols are followed.. This does not necessarily have to be the cook although it is preferable. Please read the following information re FOOD SAFE.
Food Safe Certification that was acquired prior to July 29th 2013 will expire on July 29th 2018. To re-certify it will be necessary to do a refresher course. Refresher courses and those wishing to take Food Safe for the first time can access them online by going to:
http://foodsafe.ca/recertify.html

Chemainus BCAS (Station 149) now has a Community Paramedic program in place for their service area which includes Thetis Island.
Persons wishing to take part in this free service of health care visits at home by the Community Paramedic must be referred by their family doctor or another health care professional to the Station 149 Unit Chief.
Here on Thetis I can gather names of those interested and whom might benefit from this service of support; helping people achieve self-management goals, improving health outcomes, or helping persons remain in their home at end of life, and reducing emergency room visits as well as hospital stays.
Here are the criteria: Persons already diagnosed with heart failure (HF), COPD or diabetes, and/or require an in-home assessment of fall risks, or requires palliative support.
Please let me know if you or someone you know on Thetis wishes to be considered for inclusion in the service and I will apply for you.
